For those who do not know the full truth… since the ceasefire was announced in Gaza until this very moment, not a single bag of cement has entered. Not one plank of wood. No nails, no steel rebar, no glass for windows, no doors nothing that could help a family repair a room or close a hole in a wall. We are talking about very simple things… just cement to seal a crack in a wall, or wood to make a door to protect children from the cold, or a nail to fasten a piece of cloth over a broken window. Ordinary items anywhere else in the world but here, they have become an impossible dream, as if getting one bag of cement requires a miracle. They say the war has ended. But how can it be over when we cannot even repair what was destroyed? Homes are shattered, roofs are cracked, walls are collapsing, and families are living in tents that flood with the first rainfall. Yet construction materials are banned as if they were weapons, when they are nothing more than cement, wood, nails… materials for life, not for war. Even caravans temporary shelters, nothing more are prohibited from entering. We are not allowed to build, not allowed to repair, not even allowed to protect ourselves properly. It feels as though we are meant to remain exposed, under the rain and cold, without a real roof or a wall to shield us. I truly do not understand what kind of ceasefire they are talking about. What is happening here feels like the siege continuing in another form. We are not asking for the impossible… we are asking for basic materials to repair our homes and live with dignity. Yet even this simple right is being denied.
