Preface: I'm a nobody who walked entirely away from the sport in 2023. BUT that allows me to speak the truth without repercussions. I got to be part of the last of the 'good old days' where the manufacturers stayed in Detroit and were a partners not a principal. The final years of crew chiefing I would sit in meetings and listen to manufacturers tell me how I should be calling the race 'or else'. Meanwhile they sit in their suite while the CC and drivers take the fall for not obeying orders. At the beginning of my career, the talented people worked for the teams. The kids who couldn't get jobs with teams went to work for manufacturers. I assume this is part of the reasons why the @colepearn of the world aren't involved either. Racing used to be an outlaw sport of pushing the grey area. Now it's Legos and get in line. Manufactures killed it.
