I think people forget or just never knew that Resident Evil was a huge hit, and RE style tank controls were a trend. They are antiquated now but were popular then. That is to say… Resident Evil is not some quirky indie art game. All games are certainly art in some way, and of course many talented artists worked on those games, but let’s be real. I think what many people who get riled up about whether or not the RE remakes count as “playing that game for real” need to make peace with is that these multi-million dollar video games are not precious… they are products. You may have a very profound relationship with these games and this world and these characters and that is really special and good, but waxing poetic about how and why remakes exist and what they should be and how they’re not the same is sort of missing the forest for the trees. They are made to make money, just as the originals were.

some years ago I got rid of half my stuff, put most everything else in storage, and lived out of a backpack for 2 years. I felt wonderfully free. at one point, a taxi mistakenly drove away with my backpack and for a few hours I wondered if those few things I had were gone too. I found that I cared less than I'd have expected. it felt good to realize this. I believed myself free of *things* in some way. when I finally came home and got my stuff out of storage I wondered if I'd want any of it. but as I unpacked my art and books and clothes and momentos, I felt overwhelmed by connection to my past life and to some important sense of self. now I have all of that stuff here, mixed together with my fiancé's art and books and beautiful objects, in the house where my children will grow up and it feels lovely and right in some deep way. art and beauty and objects imbued with personal meaning are not some silly error everyone but you is making. if a room like this makes you happier than whatever was in it before, you should invest more in finding the right sort of things to surround yourself with, not less.

Bleach is in fact popular, you don't bring back an anime for an unpopular series years after it finishes. Bleach has sold more than both Berserk & Vagabond. AoT is good but it's also a very different story than Bleach so comparing them in that way is stupid.
