@lingosteve @SchirmerValle @welangley @judyldubois It is not a matter if they are interested or not. This is not a foreign language they teach at school. Often times, they just want to fit it in our monolingual society and they feel embarrassed about their heritage.

@SchirmerValle @welangley @judyldubois There is no reason why an Hispanic person should feel embarrassed about not speaking Spanish, nor a person of Chinese, Polish, Dutch or any other origin about not speaking their "heritage" language. Let them learn the language of their choice which may or may not be Spanish.

@lingosteve @SchirmerValle @welangley @judyldubois Well, I disagree with you. It is a pity when they don't speak the language of their immediate family, it is a lost, because they can't communicate properly with their relatives, and like it or not it is part of their identity.

This Labor Day weekend, please be smart and stay safe so we can keep moving forward heading into fall. We saw surges in #COVID19 cases in the weeks following Memorial Day and July 4th in Virginia and across the country––we don’t want to repeat that as summer draws to a close.

Stay vigilant and continue to: 🚫 Avoid large gatherings. 📏 Keep six or more feet away from other people. 😷 Wear face coverings. 🧼 Wash your hand regularly. 🏞️ Do your socializing outdoors. When we take these steps, we are mitigating the spread of #COVID19 and saving lives.

Virginians worked hard to stay safe this summer, and the data reflects it—our case numbers remain stable and we have not seen major spikes in percent positivity. But now is not the time to let up, as we approach a holiday weekend and as students return to schools and campuses.
