I hid you in my stories, in the sounds of the songs I listened to... Couldn’t be happier to hear Engin is about to publish a third volume of his short stories…always something to look forward to🤍 The interesting cover can be interpreted in so many ways. First the title “Isimsiz” (nameless or anonymous) and the cat’s name tag, Öykü (Story) both suggest Engin’s stories aim to turn personal narratives into something collective or universal. Which is why his work is always so highly praised. Then of course it’s hard to ignore Engin’s cats…looking at the cover I couldn’t help but think of the quote Tuba posted earlier today: “Friend, I am not as I appear. My appearance is something I carry upon me; it is nothing but a carefully woven garment that protects me from your curiosity and you from my neglect.” (Kahlil Gibran). The cat is literally wearing a "garment woven with care"—a formal suit and bowtie. (Similar representations seen before in the framed artwork on an Engin birthday post). In literature and art, dressing a cat as a human is an act of disguise and often symbolizes hidden truths “that protects a person from unwanted curiosity”. (Gibran) Engin’s first book cover (Sessizlik) interestingly morphed human features with the features of a cat…it was perhaps one of the first times Engin revealed his cats actually symbolize something or someone more important in his life. This was the moment that a nameless (isimsiz) person actually became the central character in his own story (öycü). Both the quote Tuba used and the images of the cats on Engin’s book covers reveal the ongoing conflict between the private and public realm. Will we ever know what Engin’s cats represent to him? Looking carefully at the cover, golden particles are seen flying through the air. It’s hard to tell if the cat is forming, taking on another shape or dissolving. In either case… as the music Tuba chose for her quote tells us “Gece Geçer" (The Night Will Pass)😌 #EnginAkyürek #TubaBüyüküstün #Isimsiz #EnTu
