This brought back a sad memory. We have relatives on my mother’s side living in Moscow. They used to visit us in Ukraine, and we’d travel to see them in Russia. During the early days of the Maidan Revolution, my mom called her niece in Moscow. She shared how hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians were gathering at Independence Square to protest Yanukovych’s regime. Her niece dismissed it, claiming the American media was spreading lies and that no protests were happening. Stunned, my mom explained that our family and friends in Kyiv were physically at the square, witnessing it firsthand. Unmoved, her niece insisted that Russian TV showed Kyiv’s center with an empty square. That was the last time they spoke.

A civilian abducted by Russian forces in Bucha back in 2022 has returned from captivity. Bucha’s mayor, Anatolii Fedoruk, announced that after three years in Russian captivity, the local resident is finally home. He was taken during the city’s occupation in March 2022 and held in Bryansk Detention Center No. 2, with no contact with his family throughout that time. He is now receiving medical care in hospital.

Amazingly tasteless publication by the @nytimes as the honey cake hasn’t been russian but rather Jewish and of the countries and territories where Jews were settled. Certainly not in Russia where Cathrine decreed the pale of settlement to keep Jews away - in Ukraine, Poland, Lithuania and so on . A honey-sweetened cake is made by Jews, especially for the Jewish holiday of Rosh Hashanah. Known in Hebrew as ugat dvash (עוּגַת דְּבַשׁ, lit. 'honey cake'), it is mainly eaten in Israel by Israeli Jews and Jewish people all over the world who know it by its Yiddish name, lekach. Corruption by the Soviets of this cake doesn’t make it russian similarly to croissants made in Moscow that won’t be Russian, ever. I want to thank you all deeply for the kind words and support. There are many like me now unfortunately, but we were the lucky ones. We didn’t endure 3+ years of captivity. Our friends still suffer in Nazi-style prison camps, little food, torture, beatings, no contact home. Captured for defending their land, sentenced in sham trials with no defense, no hope of release. They are the true heroes. We must never forget them. 🇺🇦🙏
