The Georgia House has passed HB 962. This legislation expands college savings options for Georgia families and gives parents more flexibility when planning for their children’s future. Here’s what the bill does and why it matters. 🧵

Today, Georgia’s state tax deduction for college savings applies only to contributions made to the state-run 529 plan. HB 962 fixes that. Under this bill, Georgia families can receive the same state tax deduction when contributing to any qualified 529 college savings plan.

The House passed key education priorities, strengthening literacy, expanding HOPE access, recruiting teachers, growing career academies, and increasing after-school opportunities. Georgia is also returning $2B+ to Georgia taxpayers in the form of one-time refunds paid directly to taxpayers and homeowners' tax relief grants to lower the property tax burden, all while cutting the income tax rate to 4.99%.
