@dieworkwear Dear wise one, I’ve been looking for a jacket like the one Monty Don has. Been to a quite a few places with no joy. Any advice for me in The UK?

IMO, when developing an understanding of style, it's important to separate your judgement of someone else's style from what you'd choose to wear. Dressing is about identity and lifestyle, and we're not all the same. Each look below is perfect for the wearer, but may not suit you.

@dieworkwear @Jim_Sonweed Good style is not synonymous with something you’d wear?

Friends! A request. I need examples of memoirs/biographies where people (from all and any walks of life) wax lyrical about falling in love with the arts and the joy they take from them. If any spring to mind, please let me know. Thanks in advance!

AM once told me that he spent years reviewing Powell's books, making radio programmes about him, mentioning him in journalism etc, then nervously approached him with proof of first novel. Powell: 'I don't do puffs.'
David Forrester@dj_forrester

A couple of incisive sketches of Allan Massie in the first volume of Anthony Powell’s Journals, although in the 10 September (1982) entry Powell thought 44 year old AM was about ten years older than he actually was.

@MirandaFrance1 @TheTLS Yes. But... (as well as the sound cats make) Miau is the acronym for the main character's four-point reform plans for his ministry, IIRC, so I'm guessing the new translation finds a way around that. Can't recall but I assume there's also a feline link to his character?

Run Geordie Run 🌏🌎🌍🏃🏻
It took me 174 days of running across the USA to raise for charity what Isak earns in a week for not training/playing. That’s a tough one to reconcile. #nufc

Suella Braverman's excuse for sending government documents to her personal email account is technologically challenged. Split-screen software function on a large screen or adding a second physical screen would have worked just as well.

I was already aware that I own shirts older than Lamine Yamal. Today, I found a to-do list item that was older than him.

I just saw this sickening news about the best football journalist since Brian Glanville and it's another kick in the shins. People mock the 'mainstream media' but good luck understanding this world without excellent writing, deep domain knowledge and editors who care.

Some personal news: I’m leaving @thetimes @TimesSport⁩. Been made redundant. I’ve loved my eight years there, great people, I thank them for the platform and I leave as current @SportSJA and @WeAreTheFSA Football Journalist of the Year 👍

Clearly, the editing of the Royal Family portrait is the greatest new story of our time. I only wish the mainstream media could pursue it in more forensic detail.

@LeeNugent I can forgive everything our AI overlords do to us but I draw the line at four-person chess.

"Some followers live in private group homes, where they can brainstorm ideas, engage in philosophical debates and relax playing a four-person variant of chess known as Bughouse." Odd sentence in an otherwise fascinating story re. OpenAI's equally odd week. wsj.com/tech/ai/openai…

Dominic 'Potemkin' Cummings is one of those people who uses words/references that others in the meeting won't understand so they all have to Google them. Classic British pass.-agg. meeting behaviour.

Sad to hear the wonderful India Club on the Strand is closing. File near classic dead caffs such as the New Piccadilly, Centrale, Lorelei, Presto, & Gaby's Deli. Add pubs like the Pillars of Hercules & Carlisle Arms. Call those files The Last of London and fear for the future.
