I’ve been around awhile. I'd like to think I've a lot of accumulated Wisdom crammed into my brain — but what pops into my head on a regular basis: Stirring insights? Deep musings? Spiritual epiphanies? Nope. Advertising slogans and jingles. Okay, I may be no closer to dispensing advice regarding The Meaning of Life than I ever was, but *must* I be reminded — *despite all evidence to the contrary* — that "Winston Tastes Good, Like a (clap, clap) Cigarette Should!" — ? Worse yet, it's lousy grammar.

I suppose this is as good a time as any* to remind some of you that “#allah” is not the *name* of the #Muslim god. “Allah” is translated into English as “lord,” and Arabic-speaking #Christians use “Allah” in the same way English speakers use “Lord” or Spanish speakers pray to “Señor.” My dear Wife is Antiochian Orthodox in a parish with a sizeable Arabic-speaking contingent; they worship Christ as God the Son of God the Father in union with the Holy Spirit (something Muslims would never accept), and use the word “Allah” in its correct sense. (*I mentioned this on another platform, and was immediately accused of being in a “cult.” 🙄)

I’ve lived through some terribly turbulent times in our nation and in the world. Vietnam almost tore this country apart. Watergate was a severe wound. The Manson murders shredded the fabric of our culture. 9/11 was shocking. The COVID pandemic and ensuing political madness were bitter and disgraceful. I now feel, however, that the disturbing malaise poisoning our current world is in many ways worse than all of these other events. It is literally as if the world has spun off its axis, never to find balance again. I’ve never been more concerned about the future of the human race. And the worst part of all of it, is that it’s predictable, and therefore preventable. Everything that’s wrong is staring us right in the face, and half this country simply will not join us in fighting and fixing it. It’s infuriating and depressing and maddening.

The only functioning thing in America close to a bullet train is in Florida and it was completed for 1/5th the cost of what the 10+ year 10B over budget incomplete shit show in California
