Mayor of South Tyneside

During the visit, guests discussed past and present links between South Tyneside and Norway and were given a tour of the Edwardian town hall building. The Norwegian flag also flew over South Shields Town Hall.

Staff from Equinor visited to meet with the new Mayor of South Tyneside, Councillor John McCabe to celebrate Norwegian Constitution Day, the official National Day of Norway.

The new Mayor of South Tyneside is Councillor John Gerard McCabe, who will carry out his civic duties with his wife Julie by his side - the Mayoress.

The Mayor was a guest of Sheila Graber at her exhibition at South Shields Museum. The Mayor said: "Sheila’s exhibition was just simply amazing, it reflects back on her life as an artists, and illustrator. The exhibition encompasses true passion she has for her art."

On Wednesday Lunchtime the Mayor welcomed the Lord Lieutenant Susan Winfield to the opening of the veterans therapy centre and shop in King Street South Shields. A plaque was unveiled by the Lord Lieutenant at the official opening of the new shop.

On Saturday evening the Mayor and Mayoress attend Last Night of the Proms at Newcastle City Hall. The event was organised by Daft as a Brush Cancer Patient Care. The Mayor was joined by her fellow Mayors and dignitaries from around the region.

The event was hosted by the Mayor of Gateshead, Cllr. Dot Burnett, and the tribute was given by the Queen's representative Mrs Susan Winfield, Lord Lieutenant for Tyne and Wear. Also in attendance was many Mayors from the region.

The Mayor and Mayoress were honoured to attend The Royal British Legion Centenary Event on the Millennium Bridge, Baltic Square, Gateshead on Saturday afternoon.

The Mayor and Mayoress attended a coffee morning hosted by the Mayor of Sedgefield Parish Council. The Mayor said: "It was a good opportunity to meet up with Mayors from other areas. The morning was in the parish hall and we raised for the Mayor of Sedgefield's charities."

"It was great to chat to the fireman who were on watch, one of whom has only been in service for six months and is enjoying his new career path. Thanks to all of you for hosting our visit," said Councillor Hay

As promised when she became Mayor in May, Councillor Hay said she wanted to visit frontline services who have gone up and beyond the call of duty during the pandemic.

On Friday 30 July the Mayor and Mayoress visited Hebburn Community Fire Station. The last time she visited the station was in 1965 just before it opened.

The Mayor of South Tyneside attended her Sunderland counterpart Mayor Henry Tureman’s Charity fundraising dinner at Yuvraaj Restaurant. This is the first of many events that the Mayor and Mayoress will attend with Mayors from the region raising funds for numerous charities.

The Mayor of South Tyneside Cllr. Pat Hay officially opened the Hebburn Carnival at Carr Ellison Park on Friday Evening accompanied by her Mayoress Mrs Jean Copp. The Mayor said it was a privilege to be invited to open the Carnival which takes a lot of preparation and planning.

A much-loved café in South Tyneside has been given the civic seal of approval after it was named among the best coffee spots in the country. The Clifton Coffee Shop, in Ocean Road, South Shields, has been listed among the UK's top 20 venues. southtyneside.gov.uk/article/72850/…

The Mayoress and I were invited along to Hebburn Cemetery by @AdamEllisonAE and Cllr Porthouse to meet with John Stewart of the friends of Hebburn Cemetery to present certificates to nursery children who do fortnightly litter picks and help to water the plants around the cemetery

On behalf of the former Mayor and Mayoress, Councillor Norman Dick and Mrs Jean Williamson, she also handed over plaques to Flight Sergeant Laura Tearle and Cadet Kai Wisniewski as a token of appreciation of their service and support during Councillor Dick’s two years’ in office.

The Mayor’s Cadet supports the Mayor and Mayoress in fulfilling their roles at official civic events during their time in office – from attending annual commemorations to helping to raise funds for the Mayor’s Charity.

The Mayor of South Tyneside, Councillor Pat Hay has welcomed the new Mayoral Cadet to their role. Corporal Sky-Marie Hannah-Green, of 324 South Shields Squadron Air Training Corps, was chosen to accompany the new Mayor and Mayoress at civic engagements over the coming year.
