HERO: Delaware State Police have identified the trooper killed in Tuesday’s shooting at a Wilmington DMV as Matthew T. Snook. Known as “Ty,” the 34-year-old corporal was a 10-year veteran of the Delaware State Police from Hockessin. Authorities say he was working an overtime shift when he was fatally shot, acting to protect others in the building. He is survived by his wife and his one-year-old daughter.

I’ve been a soldier for over 22 years, and serve as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Reserve. I’ve had the privilege of serving alongside countless great Americans, all of us willing to lay down our lives for the freedom we cherish and the country we love. The best way for us to honor our veterans, not just on Veterans Day but every day, is to make sure that our men and women in uniform are only sent into harms’ way as a last resort when all diplomatic measures have been exhausted, and actually take care of them and their families if and when they return home.
