Minnesota Iron

The Mesabi Range began under a sea which contained concentrations of iron & silica. Eventually the sea disappeared, leaving sediments buried under of sand, clay, & mud. The iron-bearing sediments were subjected to heat & pressure, transforming them into taconite.
