mamo was asked if he kept any specific aspects in mind when voicing mario, and he replied that, although he had the original actor’s (chris pratt) interpretation in mind, the goal was to deliver a solid japanese version of mario. because of this, rather than just imitating the original, he was given a lot of freedom to bring his own vision of the character to life
he mentioned that, by recording over the finished animation, he was able to freely add his own "mario style" reactions that matched the action. he felt that the character was living inside him during the process, offering a unique experience that you can only find in the japanese version
