To build a toilet (excuse the expression), the following is required: An empty toilet seat (without a siphon) costs between 1500 and 2000 shekels. A toilet seat cover costs 100 shekels. A bidet costs 30 shekels. Silicone sealant costs 150 shekels. The total is equivalent to approximately $1000. These are just the toilet seat components; I haven't even inquired about the prices of wood and tarpaulins. Imagine, this is just the cost of the toilet seat alone, not including the tarpaulin and fabric. I apologize for the image, but you should know some of the details of our struggle. Please help me build a bathroom for my children. gofund.me/f97773ee

So I was at a cafe in central London today and at a table right behind me were 3 Iranian women. I could hear them conversing in Farsi. Somehow we got up to leave at the same time, and they asked me if I was from Iran. I told them that I was from Pakistan. One said, “Pakistani people are so nice.” I asked them if everything was ok with their families in Iran, and they said, no - the bombing is incessant. We all cursed Netanyahu together and I told them Iran was putting up an impressive fight. They said they were proud of their country. It was a touching moment of solidarity among complete strangers. Specially since at first I thought they may be part of the Pahlavi diaspora. But they were actually genuine Iranians abroad, concerned for their country and family.

Iran won’t fragment because it’s a “natural country” (whatever that means…), just don’t ask why we already lost much of our territory! Were those parts of Iran the unnatural parts?

@sharghzadeh Athletes can be smart. You can't be a pro football player in the U.S. without at least some college, and you need good grades.

I like the idea of Eevee originally being from Unova or Kalos due to the fact you can capture them in the wild there and in Kanto or Sinnoh they are gift pokemon or specifically bought over

She managed to pressure this bike company and now they’ll ship to Israel. We wouldn’t want Miriam’s children just using brakes and pads bought anywhere already in Israel, she must have them from this company. What a fucking joke this is all is.
Myriam Shermer@MyriamShermer

A few years ago, my husband — a cycling enthusiast — invested almost $300 in a “built to last” balance bike from @LittleBigBikes for our kids, specifically because parts could be replaced over time. Today, as our youngest needs new pedals and brakes, the company refuses to ship to Israel. Not to a government — to customers. Companies are, of course, free to take political positions. But refusing to serve individuals based solely on where they live is not a “peace stance.” It’s collective exclusion and discrimination. People who oppose boycotts should know where this company stand.

Whatever you think of Trump trying to deport these two Iranian women (how will he even get them there?) we can all agree this is not the behavior of a confident man. A military that feels good about its war effort does not need to turn its attention to the random (supposed) grand niece of a guy they assassinated in a drone strike 6 years ago. This is the behavior of losers and cowards and that’s an objective observation, not a judgment.

Inidgeneity is a concept that only makes sense in the Americas, Australia, and NZ. This "indigenous" claim (which Jeffrey Goldberg loves too) is meant for Americans and an example of the cultural power of the US reorganizing and sorting the world according to its history.

When Polymarket hosts bets on outcomes affecting hundreds of thousands of ppl in Iran and/or the global south no one blinks. But the moment it involves a single American pilot suddenly we’re confronting the ethics. The double standard in how human life is valued is staggering.
ian bremmer@ianbremmer

dystopia: whatever happens to the pilot, at least polymarket will make money on the outcome. shut this down.
