BREAKING 🚨 | Reform announce plans to legalise discrimination. Plans include scrapping the Equality Act, which would legalise discrimination against a worker if they were a woman, disabled, black, pregnant or gay. From ripping up equality protections, to backing fire-and-rehire, to opposing a ban on zero-hours contracts, Reform UK have made it clear whose side they’re on – and it’s not working people.

A lot of sadness currently at the injustice for the Epstein victims. I wanted to write about a child who never got justice; an Irish girl who died on October 18th, 1998 in London. Her name was Aliyah Hurley, described by tabloids as a "junkie hooker." She was 13-years-old. /1

Our Report into working classes in the creative industries We found genuine anger & despair as talent was lost Class discrimination can be found across all current protected characteristics so amongst our recommendations we call for class to be treated as one too #ClassCeiling

In the early hours of Saturday 2 August 1986, 21-year-old Diane Sindall was murdered in #Birkenhead. Her body was discovered by a member of the public in an alleyway off Borough Road several hours later. She had been sexually assaulted and suffered extensive injuries. The cause of death was confirmed to be a cerebral haemorrhage. Following advances in forensic science, the investigation into Diane’s murder was reopened in 2023 after new DNA evidence was confirmed not to be a match for the man previously convicted of her murder. 👉 We are continuing to work to identify who the DNA belongs to and are urging anyone with information to come forward. @CrimestoppersUK is offering a reward of up to £20,000 for information given exclusively to the charity that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for Diane’s murder. It is absolutely devastating for Diane’s family that they are still waiting for the answers as to who was responsible for her murder 💔 In 1986 DNA was very much in the early stages and as such was not available to the detectives who originally investigated Diane’s death, but her murder was fully investigated by the team. Unfortunately, there is no match for the DNA identified on the national DNA database and we know it does not belong to any member of her family or her fiancé at the time. The investigation team has obtained samples locally, but screening has also taken place in Swansea, Perth, London, Hull and Newcastle with the voluntary DNA elimination samples. ❗ To date 461 males have been eliminated from the investigation. We are currently awaiting the forensic results in relation to a further 43 samples submitted earlier this month. ❓ Were you on Borough Road on the evening of Friday 1 August or the early hours of Saturday 2 August 1986 and saw or heard something suspicious? Or can you help identify the man seen running away from Bidston Hill on Sunday 3 August? In the years since Diane’s murder has anybody you know raised any suspicions or passed any information which you think could help? We can trace and request a DNA sample from any person you suspect or even a relative if they have passed away or emigrated. Please help bring answers to Diane’s family who have waited almost 40 years for justice. Someone, somewhere, knows what happened that night, and we’re urging them to come forward. Contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, or via their website.

Harper Collins are complicit and culpable in the abuse- they knew for years but didn’t want to offend their cash cow. Disgusting.

Every year without fail someone thinks it's a good idea to send work related rejections on the final working Friday before Christmas. There's nothing I can think of that I can be rejected from this year, but I swear I'll still get one.

It is with great sadness that we learn of the passing of Tony Caunter. Tony will forever be loved and respected by everyone at EastEnders for his warmth, kindness and humour as well as being greatly remembered by all those at home who instantly took Roy to their hearts. Roy will always be remembered for his great love of Pat, despite him famously declaring his distaste in her choice of earrings, which gave us all one of Walford’s greatest love affairs.  Tony will never be forgotten by all those who worked alongside him for many years and everyone at EastEnders sends their love and condolences to Tony’s family and friends.

I’ve been ghosted by so many development execs who ASK for a meeting & documents, I know how shit it feels. So if a freelancer can take the time to reply to emails, someone whose job it is to engage with freelancers should do the same.

Needed a script Ed for a project & was inundated with responses. After I’d found one I replied to every single email to thank them for getting in touch, which took a whole day. So many replied how unusual that was.

*One month before her 95th birthday, Patricia Routledge wrote something that still gently echoes:* **“I’ll be turning 95 this coming Monday. In my younger years, I was often filled with worry — worry that I wasn’t quite good enough, that no one would cast me again, that I wouldn’t live up to my mother’s hopes. But these days begin in peace, and end in gratitude.”** My life didn’t quite take shape until my forties. I had worked steadily — on provincial stages, in radio plays, in West End productions — but I often felt adrift, as though I was searching for a home within myself that I hadn’t quite found. At 50, I accepted a television role that many would later associate me with — Hyacinth Bucket, of Keeping Up Appearances. I thought it would be a small part in a little series. I never imagined that it would take me into people’s living rooms and hearts around the world. And truthfully, that role taught me to accept my own quirks. It healed something in me. At 60, I began learning Italian — not for work, but so I could sing opera in its native language. I also learned how to live alone without feeling lonely. I read poetry aloud each evening, not to perfect my diction, but to quiet my soul. At 70, I returned to the Shakespearean stage — something I once believed I had aged out of. But this time, I had nothing to prove. I stood on those boards with stillness, and audiences felt that. I was no longer performing. I was simply being. At 80, I took up watercolor painting. I painted flowers from my garden, old hats from my youth, and faces I remembered from the London Underground. Each painting was a quiet memory made visible. Now, at 95, I write letters by hand. I’m learning to bake rye bread. I still breathe deeply every morning. I still adore laughter — though I no longer try to make anyone laugh. I love the quiet more than ever. **I’m writing this to tell you something simple:** **Growing older is not the closing act. It can be the most exquisite chapter — if you let yourself bloom again.** Let these years ahead be your *treasure years*. You don’t need to be famous. You don’t need to be flawless. You only need to show up — fully — for the life that is still yours. *With love and gentleness,* — Patricia Routledge

20.07.1974   36,2% of Republic of Cyprus territory remains occupied. 162,000 Greek-Cypriots became refugees in their own country. 1619 persons declared missing.  Today, 758 persons’ fate remains unknown. 20,000 Greek-Cypriots and Maronites chose not to leave their homes.   Today, 331 people are still enclaved. Μore than 43.000 Turkish troops remain in the occupied areas of the Republic of Cyprus. Since 1974, more than 160,000 Turks settlers were transferred to the occupied areas, altering Cyprus’ demographic profile and population balance. Geographical names have been illegally changed and cultural and historical heritage is systematically eradicated aiming to the eventual “turkification” of the occupied areas.   Φτάνει. Yeter. Enough.

Those of us in Parliament during the discussions before war with Iraq find the current debate frighteningly similar. We were under huge pressure to support the US, almost right or wrong. But the Iraq war was a disastrous decision. War with Iran would be equally catastrophic.
