At only 17 years-old Peristera Kraka was a fierce warrior during the Greek revolution. She led an armed band of men in Macedonia in 1878 after her brother was killed. She was named "Joan d'Arc of the 19th century” by French journalists. She died in 1938 when she was 78 years-old.
