The read aloud was in ENGLISH…but in their brain, they were also thinking & making connections en ESPAÑOL. The power of TRANSLAGUAGING is something I highly encourage in our newcomers’ classroom & in content classroom I serve. Using home language to express high order thinking and learning empowers students. It’s a window into their brain — and language oppression vanishes allowing creativity to take over 🙌🏽 #LanguageMatters

It’s important to capture the language repertoires of each ML. MLs bring beautiful complex language that should be captured and responded to in a linguistically and culturally appropriate way. I created the ML profile to help guide the work and it’s working great! #multilingual
