While I was on my soapbox, Allison Spillman double checked, and YES, we are losing about $10 million dollars in state funds. Then she asked staff for an updated Org chart of the entire Central Office staff including salaries, and which staff are student facing. (!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Just speculating- this is Katrina Callsen’s last meeting, and Jonno Alcaro (at-large rep) is done at the end of this year. Depending on how the election in Nov goes…maybe they decided to extend it before new board members (who may want him gone) start in January. 🤷🏻‍♀️

The Albemarle School Board just unanimously (minus Ellen Osborne, who is absent) voted to extend the contract for Supt. Haas. I missed the very beginning of the convo, so I’m not sure why they were doing this NOW. I didn’t think his contract was up for 2 more years.

Albemarle County won't remove their insulting 66% threshold in the collective bargaining resolution, so I have an idea: Let's also add a literacy test! And what about a poll tax? They must have left those out by accident. #UnionBusting but claiming to be #antiracist 👀

I bring my kids to school board meetings because I want some of their core memories to be watching me stand up for myself and others. Will you (and maybe your kids…) join us??

The Albemarle Education Association has worked for more than two years, trying to win collective bargaining rights. The school board has publicly questioned our integrity and apparently privately unanimously agreed NOT to compromise with us on a resolution. They lied.

ACPS has broken yet another promise to its educators. Remember when the School Board announced its intention to work w/the AEA on a collective bargaining agreement to bring historic protections to this county's school staff? Today, we know these were empty words from the Board.

he wants teachers to be accountable for the results they get. When faced with reports like these showing SO MANY things out of our control that affected our success- I want the leaders of this division to be accountable for THAT. School Board- you are the bosses; act like it.

I have SO MANY thoughts about the Bellwether Report that is on the Albemarle SB agenda for Thursday's meeting. I'm working on writing them up- but my BIGGEST takeaway is this: We've been telling ACPS this stuff for years and they didn't listen. They DID. NOT. LISTEN. 🧵

Look- I love a good FOIA argument as much as anyone, but that’s really NOT what I wanted for #TeacherAppreciationWeek I just want the doc I requested on May 1st, & to not have to forward my requests to people’s bosses before they’ll reply to tell me they won’t give me the doc.

He anticipated the first meeting will be in late May and both sides will work together to establish a date. The objective of the meetings will be to arrive at a shared resolution for approval. Those are the main points from his announcement…now for my initial thoughts —-> 3/

Haas says they will bring their proposed draft to the SB for feedback soon. Once the board is satisfied with the draft, he proposed to meet biweekly (with a limit of 4 meetings) to work “collaboratively” with the AEA. He proposed 2 reps from the board and 2 reps from the AEA. 2/

@MsDsDucklings We are getting mixed messaging today. Some members of the board seem to think we will still be involved, even though their motion did not include us. Forgive me, but if it’s not in writing, we shouldn’t just take their word for it. Clarity and communication are so important.

The whiplash I'm feeling...from the joy at the Charlottesville School Board meeting, where they passed a CB resolution they worked on with the CEA. To the Albemarle board meeting where they rejected our request to do the same- after making us think they were going to say yes.

“While we’re definitely grateful for a 5% raise, any raise that’s below the rate of inflation will make our staff feel like we are making less money next year,” Mary McIntyre, vice president of the group, told The Daily Progress during the budget presentation on Thursday.
