A security guard tailed me on my walk home tonight. He demanded if I lived there because “you look suspicious.” I showed my keys & buzzed myself into my building. He left, no apology. This is the reality of black girls: One day you’re called an icon, the next day, a threat.

For real though, support your local youth arts orgs. There are hundreds of thousands of young people with this kind of game that need the opportunity and mentorship. Volunteer. Judge a slam. Sit in the audience so they can see the impact of their words. 🙏🏿

Distance learning is not my fave, but so many of our kids are thriving. And watching & discussing inauguration in real time on Zoom together this morning surrounded by our aunties, baby brothers, pets felt so special. These 10 yr olds are brilliant. The future is bright, folks.
