@pnamblat Oh yes he was. Njaan gandharvan is top of mind of course. Also randomly remembered that there's a sitarist named Paulson hehe. No connection to Johnson I think 😬

@MusicAloud You now reminded me of another classic... will need to revisit. I just realize how Johnson Maash was fond of sitar.. I remember this song has good sitar interludes.

@pnamblat Yeah quite possible :) was looking up behag based songs and realised that Johnson maash has also done Ariyathe Ariyathe

@MusicAloud Ha ha yes the pamagamaga phrases in the kannada song is what I also caught as B. Thooval has neelambari phrases in the interlude and the charanam but johnson master may have mixed ...

@pnamblat Hehe nicely spotted. Maybe it is in behag only? There are overlaps in terms of notes Alle, and perhaps the common segment in the two segments are more B than N? I also got reminded of the pamagamaga opening in navamukunda :)

This melody has been etched in my head and now I get why I am attracted to this song.. Its Johnson master's song "Thoovil" very very similar mood and melody but its in neelambari raga so maybe this kannada song also is. @MusicAloud its been years I have visited this song .

Between Maqbool, Joji, Mandaar & the indie Tulu film Paddayi, Macbeth just keeps inspiring extraordinary Indian adaptations. Paddayi, featuring an unknown but stellar cast, a shoe string budget & a crazy interpretation of the 3 witches in coastal Tulunadu totally blew my mind!

@pnamblat @PrayRona_ Back on this though, the localisation idea was good, juxtaposing shakespeare and vadakkan paattu premises, but didn't quite pan out that well. Even the score I can't remember anything standing out that much tbh.

@PrayRona_ I havent seen it yet . But the credits were too good ( like hans zimmer's assistant scoring) @MusicAloud may have a view.
