Hard to believe my 8th book, Feral, is officially released into to the world today. Support an Indie Author and grab a copy now. Links are in my bio. Side note… my 1st book, American Nomads was released 4 years ago. 8 books published in four years. Whew! Time to revise #9 🙂

@ashleyschendel Another is working on it now, looking to buy next year. The duo in the 1bd, will move to the 2bd until they buy their own. When that happens, my youngest will move into the 1bd. And the cycle repeats. When everyone is on their own we have rentals for income. Win/win. /end

@ashleyschendel We live on some acreage where we built 2 more small houses. 1 w/2 bds, 1 w/1 bd. Our kids live in them & pay rent & their utility bills. The goal is to allow them to save up $ to buy something of their own. 1 has already done this w/her husband /1

We have a two-bedroom apartment with a kitchen in our basement, and I’ve already told my daughter she can live there as long as she wants or needs to. If she goes to college, we’re not charging her rent. If she somehow chooses not to, we’d charge something low just so adulthood still feels real. I don’t think making your kid struggle unnecessarily is some higher form of parenting. If you have the ability to give them a softer landing while they build a life, why wouldn’t you?

@ScottLaudati A lot of the ones I know, aside from you, write splatterpunk, horror and a few even write fantasy. I'm sure there's more, those are just the spaces I've run into them.

This 💯. Mark edited the entire American Nomads series. By the end of the series, he was so well versed w/the characters, he even pointed out that a Cajun character of mine, “might not say it this way.” 😂 I honestly think his feedback helped me become a better writer.

AI has been trained on hundreds of thousands of books and 95% of those books have spelling errors. AI will flatten your writer's voice. wordrefiner.com DM me to get on my schedule ahead of time. The human touch matters. What is in your book?

@Whitedale_U Here’s the link to the CNBC article. It looks like Hatchet didn’t care, initially, but after the recent court ruling, they changed their stance because in the words of the McMillan CEO, “No one can own Ai generated work.” cnbc.com/2025/03/19/ai-…

I don't know whether or not Shy Girl was heavily written with AI. What I do know is that the author's defense is that her editor used AI. So she didn't notice that her editor was rewriting most of her book? ... That's all I really need to know. ;)

@MichelleMo28539 @Whitedale_U Ah, more clarity. Thank you. I’ll never understand how folks can release a book without reading it so many times, you could recite it word for word, blindfolded. I once published through a smaller press, even then, I read it one more time when I got my copies.

@NL_Mclaughlin @Whitedale_U She claims the editor was an online friend of hers. The book was self-published first. Lately, traditional publishers acquire popular self-published books and don't change much, unless there's a copyright issue from fan fiction, like Alchemized.

@NL_Mclaughlin @jakonrath @Whitedale_U Absolutely. That question is very relevant. I just question the author's claim that the editor rewrote it without her knowledge, given the usual back-and-forth of edits, not to mention needing author sign off on page proofs.

@Whitedale_U Makes sense, and good to know. Still begs the question how it got this far. With all those eyes reading it, someone should have flagged it early on.

@NL_Mclaughlin I don't know what the logistics of the contract are. But I've never heard of an editor/publisher having complete authority to rewrite a book. Authors, generally, keep creative rights. The accusations are that most to all of it is AI. 🤷

@mmdaviesostrom @Whitedale_U How did no one figure out the use of Ai before this? If it's glaringly obvious, it should have been flagged way sooner.

@NL_Mclaughlin @Whitedale_U In most trad pub contracts there is a clause stating that the editor will NOT make changes (beyond fixing small typos or spelling) without the author's consent. Contrary to popular opinion, trad pub doesn't remove the author's say in the final product.
