Earlier today, I participated in the 10th edition of the #HarvestMoneyExpo2026, organised by the Vision Group at Kololo Independence Grounds, alongside numerous distinguished individuals. The event, under the theme "Farming as Business," offered a valuable opportunity for farmers to network, exchange ideas, and market their products. I commend the Vision Group for providing a platform to showcase Uganda's entrepreneurial spirit, which is a celebration and a valuable asset to be preserved. Additionally, I appreciate the organisers for extending the event to students, thereby enabling them to nurture their entrepreneurial skills during their formative years.

I have this morning, officially flagged off the oil palm planting exercise in the Mayuge hub, which covers Mayuge, Bugiri, and Namayingo districts, under the National Oil Palm Project (@NOPP_UG). The project aims to increase domestic vegetable oil production, address rural poverty by involving smallholder farmers in oil crops production, and improve the health of the population through increased vegetable oil intake. This initiative is expected to cut down Uganda's expenditure on imported palm oil, which currently stands at $300 million. I emphasized the importance of oil palm as a model commodity for achieving the objectives of the agro-industrialization program highlighting @GovUganda's commitment to supporting small-holder oil palm farmers through loans that the farmers can pay after harvest and negotiating with banks to provide financial support to the large scale farmers.
