Okay, hear me out, because I really think this is the moment to trust yourself. A 20 song tracklist actually works in your favor right now. You don’t need to cram everything into a shorter album or rush these collaborations. This project should stay very Megan led, like no matter who’s on the song, it should always sound like a full Megan record first. You’re the anchor here. Eleven solo songs and nine features is a perfect balance, especially when each feature has a real purpose and isn’t just there for names.
The feature list is strong Doechii, Monaleo, Cardi, Kehlani, Beyoncé, SZA, Ariana, Doja, Kendrick, even a K pop moment but the key is placement. No back to back features, nobody opening or closing the album but you. Even when you decide to combine features, it should feel intentional and musical, not like a spectacle. Pairings like Ariana and Doja, Beyoncé and Kendrick, Kendrick and Doechii, or SZA and Kendrick only work if the song is built around you and the beat, with that interlocking, conversational flow instead of everybody trying to rap or sing the longest. You controlling the tempo, cadence, and energy is what keeps it clean.
I also really love the idea of letting collaborators respond to or even pick type beats first and then you come in and make it yours. Once a beat is chosen, you step in, shape it with your voice, your cadence, your writing, and lay down one or two verses that immediately make the record feel like you. From there, the features are just stepping into a structure you already set. That way they still feel creatively involved, but the song never leaves your world. You’re not adjusting to anybody you’re reinterpreting the record in your own way.
And honestly, this is also the moment to really lean into how strong of a writer you already are. Your pen is sharp, your phrasing is memorable, and your ability to make lines stick is one of your biggest strengths. Bringing in the right writers especially for hooks isn’t about replacing your voice, it’s about amplifying it. Strong hook writers who understand your tone, your confidence, and your humor can help turn great records into undeniable ones, without ever diluting who you are. When the hooks are as intentional as the verses, the whole project levels up and feels bigger, more polished, and more timeless.
This album should feel confident, cohesive, and fun not heavy, not tense, not overthought. You’ve earned the space to relax, trust your instincts, and really enjoy the process. This is your moment to have fun with the music while still reminding everybody exactly who you are.
