Former NBA player Eddy Curry says The Chicago Bulls offered him $400,000 a year for 50 years ($20 million total) to take a DNA test but he refused. “The bulls were not letting me play and it came down to a situation where they were like we want you to take a DNA test because we don’t know if you have a heart disease or you’d eventually develop one” “So my lawyer went to talk to some people and he came back and said ‘nah I don’t think you should do that because that could probably affect a lot of things for some African-Americans’” “They were like ‘if you test positive we will give you like $400,000 yearly for the rest of your life’”

He used a police database to find a woman he wanted to date... then pulled her over with no legal reason. According to investigators, Monroe County Sheriff's Deputy Lamar Roman met a woman while working security on the set of the TV series Bad Monkey in the Florida Keys. After learning her name and that she lived in Marathon, prosecutors say Roman used restricted law enforcement databases—including MNI and DAVID—to access her personal information, despite having no official law enforcement purpose. Investigators allege he then added her license plate to a License Plate Reader (LPR) hot list, allowing patrol technology to notify him when her vehicle was detected. Days later, the system alerted him that her vehicle was traveling through Big Pine Key. Roman reportedly drove after her, bypassed other traffic, and initiated a traffic stop. According to investigators, he never asked for her driver's license or registration and never explained a lawful reason for stopping her. Instead, he allegedly told her, "I told you I'd find you," and remarked that he had hoped her boyfriend was in the vehicle so he could "give him a hard time." The woman reported the encounter, triggering both an internal affairs investigation and a criminal investigation. During questioning, investigators said Roman admitted he knowingly misused law enforcement databases, had no legitimate reason to access the woman's information, and no lawful basis to place her vehicle on the LPR hot list or conduct the stop. He was arrested, fired by the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, and charged with three counts of Computer Fraud – Unauthorized Access, all third-degree felonies under Florida law. The criminal case was later resolved through Florida's Pretrial Diversion Program, an alternative resolution that can result in charges being dismissed upon successful completion of court-ordered conditions.

A 19-year-old is accused of being part of one of the world's most notorious cybercrime groups. Federal prosecutors say Peter Stokes, a dual U.S.-Estonian citizen, was extradited from Finland to Chicago to face charges tied to the alleged "Scattered Spider" hacking operation. Investigators allege the group targeted more than 100 organizations, using social engineering to gain access to company networks before demanding cryptocurrency payments. Prosecutors say the scheme resulted in more than $100 million in ransom payments, along with millions more in recovery costs. The criminal complaint also alleges investigators found social media posts showing stacks of cash and expensive jewelry, along with references to The Blacklist and The Sopranos. Stokes has been charged with conspiracy, cyber intrusion, and fraud offenses. The allegations remain unproven, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. Cybercrime isn't just targeting computers anymore—it's targeting people. Could your workplace recognize a social engineering attack before it's too late?
