the "curl" of a vector field is itself another vector field that describes the flow Around that point
remember, a vector = has a Magnitude AND a Direction, and the "curl" has to describe the strength of the swirl AND the axis of rotation
eg 1st plot, very swirly!

in the last plot the arrows clearly zoom INTO the centers, so the divergence is strongly negative
