Excited to share that we published another #butterfly 🦋paper🥳 We assessed landscape-level effects of permanent grassland management and landscape configuration on open-land butterflies based on national monitoring data: doi.org/10.1007/s10531… Summary below... 1/6

The shady passageway by our house has just a single small patch of nettles, but these nettles are home to lots of Snout and Mother of Pearl moth caterpillars. Last year, Red Admiral & Comma butterflies bred here too. Scruffy urban corners like this are so important for nature.

Spanish Greenish Black-tip is one of Europe’s most threatened butterflies, primarily because it has an extremely restricted range. Last week I spent a day in Hoya de Baza exploring this incredible species and its unique habitat – a wonderful experience @europebutterfly

How about this! A teeny-tiny, second instar White-letter Hairstreak caterpillar. Bravely venturing out to find another Elm bud to devour, having a much needed rest on the way. One of three found this afternoon in Exmouth @BCDevon @savebutterflies

Hello , I’ve written another letter to @antanddec about the ongoing appalling abuse of animals on @ITV programme @imacelebrity . I’ve tried to be polite but my patience has run thin . If you agree with what it says please RT . #ImACeleb

Had an enjoyable and rewarding afternoon on Thursday watching Silver-studded Blues on the East Devon Pebblebeds with colleagues. Several females spotted laying eggs on bracken and a very appealing bit of dead wood! @MarcusWRhodes @BCDevon @EastDevonAONB @NigelBournBC

Here's my article from the latest issue of Butterfly @savebutterflies - I just LOVE hairstreaks, and I want more people to experience their incredible life-cycle. I hope info like this can make these beautiful and elusive butterflies more accessible for all!

Listening to Chris Philp on @BBCr4today talking about ‘protecting the public from @JustStop_Oil protesters’ . Saying nothing about protecting the public from climate breakdown as the government plans to drop flagship £11.6bn climate pledge . . . FFS ! Yesterday was the hottest day on earth

Silver-studded Blue laying an egg on Bracken pinnae in the East Devon Pebblebed Heaths. Note the use of her abdomen to test multiple locations before deciding on a place to lay. @savebutterflies @BCDevon

Ecological theory and experience tells us that just leaving a heavily degraded ecosystem to natural processes means we will be waiting a long time for nature recovery There is nothing wrong with interventions to set these systems on a path of recovery science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…

Wonderful day with TVAONB surveying for Heath Fritillary in Greenscoombe Wood, Tamar Valley - a lovely woodland brilliantly managed by the Duchy of Cornwall, who maintain early successional habitat through rotational coppicing and scrub control. A joy to see 233 Heath Frits!
