Earlier Today in Abuja, I was with my fellow Honourable Commissioners for Health from all 36 states and the FCT for the 2026 First Quarterly Meeting of the Nigeria Health Commissioners’ Forum (NHCF).
This two-day gathering is a strategic platform to assess our collective performance, align on priority interventions, and drive coordinated action at the sub-national level.
For Niger State, this forum is another opportunity to benchmark progress, share best practices, and reinforce our people-centered healthcare vision under the New Niger Agenda of His Excellency, Farmer Governor Mohammad Umaru Bago @HonBago.
Engagements will include performance reviews, peer learning sessions, and dialogue with key stakeholders like the NGF Health Team and the SWAp Coordination Office.
Our focus remains:
✅ Translating policy into impact
✅ Strengthening partnerships
✅ Building a resilient, responsive, and inclusive health system that works for every Nigerian.
Together, we will deliver.

A HERO LOST IN SERVICE: I MOURN NURSE BALA ALAWA, AND COMMISERATE WITH HEALTH WORKERS AND HIS FAMILY
It is with deep anguish and a heavy heart that I speak to you today following the tragic killing of Nurse Bala Alawa of General Hospital Kagara.
This incident is devastating and deeply painful. Nurse Bala Alawa was a committed and compassionate professional who embodied the highest ideals of our healthcare profession. His dedication to saving lives and serving humanity, even in the face of adversity, stands as a testament to his noble character.
This is not just a loss to his family, but to the entire health community and Niger State at large. We have lost a brave and selfless healthcare worker whose contributions will never be forgotten.
I commiserate deeply with his bereaved family, his colleagues at General Hospital Kagara, all healthcare workers across the state, the Medical and Health Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MHWUN), and the entire Niger State Ministry of Health during this moment of grief.
This tragic loss comes at a time when our nation marks Workers’ Day—a moment meant to celebrate resilience, sacrifice, and invaluable contributions. Instead, it has become a painful reminder of the risks many frontline workers face in the line of duty, even as they strive to serve humanity.
Let me assure you: the Ministry remains committed to the welfare, safety, and protection of all healthcare workers who continue to serve diligently under difficult circumstances.
I pray that Almighty Allah (SWT) forgives his shortcomings, grants him Aljannatul Firdaus, and gives his loved ones the strength and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.
Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi Raji'un.
