Bail is free
Police is your friend.
We all know this are all slogans. Almost no Nigerian has ever gotten bail for free before.
I’ve never seen Nigerian policemen and be at rest that they are on my side and my friend ever before. This are my lived experiences and experiences of those close to me that I’ve seen and heard.

Even undeveloped countries don’t have the kind of security checkpoints Nigeria have. Only war torn countries have the kind of police checkpoints Nigeria has. Nigeria’s colonial and military rule is to blame for this. We haven’t moved past it. With technology, policing has gone past putting road blocks every 5km and carrying guns up and down in broad day light. The government must invest heavily in technology for our police to become modern and stop policing like we’re in the 1900s.

These checkpoints achieve zero against insecurity in Nigeria. They’ve simply become avenues for officers to harass and extort citizens daily.

When these thieves run down businesses that are supposed to provide jobs, they will come out and blame the government for joblessness and hunger. This stealing is happening all over the country in multiple businesses and of course government offices.

I heard a story about how a poultry owner caught his staff stealing his eggs. It was an egg heist, as 80% of the staff were involved. They had about 10 25L kegs, and they broke eggs into them. How he caught them: So one day, he made a surprise visit to the farm after arriving from an abroad trip, and on getting to the gate, he saw the kegs, and he was like, there is no fuel scarcity, as they have quarters for staff inside the farm. No one was there because even the security men ran away when they saw his vehicle. He stepped out, opened the kegs, and BOOM, eggs filled them. Apparently, they were selling to different bakeries. Damn, he almost went mad. 😭 Imagine the eggs they broke to fill up a keg.

@_VALKlNG The system was designed for the fuel attendants to scam. They intentionally pay them ridiculously low salaries and expect them to “sort” themselves by cheating customers here and there to make money. It happens more often than you think all over the country.

This is how a child loses trust in their parents;
- Asks a genuine question. Gets dismissed.
- Shares excitement about something. Gets mocked.
- Comes home with a problem. Gets lectured instead of heard.
- Cries. Gets told to stop being dramatic.
- Fails at something. Gets compared to someone else.
- Achieves something. Parents barely look up.
- Tries to talk. Parent is on the phone.
- Learns that home is not a safe place to be honest.
- Starts hiding things.
- No quality time. Only correction.
- No "I'm proud of you" without a condition attached.
- No listening without an agenda.
- No apology when the parent is wrong.
- No curiosity about who the child actually is.
- Child raises themselves emotionally.
- Grows up. Moves away as fast as possible.
- Calls home out of obligation, not love.
- Becomes a stranger who shares blood.
And the parent wonders why their child never opens up.
To raise a child who actually trusts you, do this;
- Put the phone down and look them in the eyes when they talk.
- Ask questions about their world without judging the answers.
- Apologize when you're wrong. They're watching everything.
- Celebrate who they are, not just what they achieve.
- Make home the safest place they know.
- Listen to understand, not to respond.
- Show up to the small moments. Those are the big ones.
- Tell them you love them without them having to earn it.
- Be the person they run to, not from.

This is why we have mediocres all over the country. Quacks. Incompetence. And resultant low state the country is in right now, cos connection is valued over actual qualifications and capability.
This is why we have the very leaders we complain about today and this is why our families are murdered on a daily basis without our being able to do anything about it all.
Our society and its youths are dead and gone. No hope. No light at the end of any tunnel here.

The easiest thing is building the stadium, the maintenance is the most important thing. We had at least 5 world class stadiums in Nigeria when we hosted U17 World Cup in 2009. None of those stadiums can in good shape at the moment. Even if them build them as he’s promising, will they be good enough to host competitions 5 years later?
