@panorrrama @IchLacheDE @Lato3Lato @xboxanimee Yeah see thats your problem, I really advise you to change your mindset. It is possible to view something as art and entertainment at the same time. Most Authors don‘t just write characters to convey a message, you know.
English

@NotAbotepex @IchLacheDE @Lato3Lato @xboxanimee like I aready told you I dont consume anime as entertainment. I view it as a piece of art.
And of course Im not invested in a fictional character like I would be in a real person for me a character is a plot device that exists to deliver a message, not something I identify with.
English

@panorrrama @IchLacheDE @Lato3Lato @xboxanimee Anyways, i‘m done here. What you have written just shows me that you arent invested Subaru at all. Ofc you‘re going to find such an ep “filler“ if you don‘t care about the characters in it, that‘s how it is for every piece of entertainment.
English

@panorrrama @IchLacheDE @Lato3Lato @xboxanimee Dude the point isn‘t that it is predictable. It WAS predictable for most people. You finding it „skippable“ shows me that you do not care about Subaru at all. Other people found it predictable yet still thought this was a great episode. Difference being that they care abt Subaru
English

@panorrrama @IchLacheDE @Lato3Lato @xboxanimee You said this episode was the only skippable one out of the show for you. Seems like you don‘t care about what happens in it to me lol
English

@panorrrama @IchLacheDE @Lato3Lato @xboxanimee It is supposed to be predictable, that‘s the point. But the interesting part isn‘t really the outcome, it‘s the journey to it. The only people who wouldn‘t like this episode are people who don‘t care about the characters of this show beyond surface level.
English

@NotAbotepex @IchLacheDE @Lato3Lato @xboxanimee but didnt we already know all of that before this episode? (or at least were able to predict it due to it being normal)
also just because we know a character doesnt die doesnt mean the whole story is predictable, if you take one possibility from infinite you still have infinite
English

@panorrrama @IchLacheDE @Lato3Lato @xboxanimee Atp just skip the entire anime, ill tell you how it ends. Subaru will grow into a better person, and have a happy ending with emilia (author confirmed this). Now you know how it ends, are you just going to skip the rest? Since the beginning and middle doesn‘t matter anyway to you
English

@NotAbotepex @IchLacheDE @Lato3Lato @xboxanimee yeah but I feel like it is the only episode in the whole anime you could just skip (except for the end with echidna which I love) and really wouldnt miss anything. I think it was only referenced one time when he quoted his mom "not beginning or the middle but the end matters"
English

@panorrrama @IchLacheDE @Lato3Lato @xboxanimee s why flawed characters exist. In 99% of stories written, the protagonist does not die (until maybe the epilogue). The outcome is predictable, yet the story is still engaging due to how it is presented. Same thing with this episode.
English

@panorrrama @IchLacheDE @Lato3Lato @xboxanimee You said it „doesn‘t progress the story“. It does, because we learn about subarus past, and he gets to say one last goodbye to his (albeit fake) parents. I don‘t get this way of thinking, for example we know subaru will grow into a better person, as that-

@IchLacheDE @Lato3Lato @xboxanimee by cliché I mean something that has been done a hundred times before. this episode doesnt progress the story at all, except for the ending with Echidna. It is not even a real ReZero episode it feels like a parody of some melodrama slop like your lie in april
English

@panorrrama @IchLacheDE @Lato3Lato @xboxanimee Well that‘s your opinion. Can‘t change that. Still, you can‘t just dismiss stuff like 2x4 because you found it “filler“. It is absolutely not filler, you just don‘t find it ineresting.
English

@NotAbotepex @IchLacheDE @Lato3Lato @xboxanimee But idk it doesnt resonate with me, feels kinda repetitive and the execution couldve been better.
tbh I love 1x18 (maybe just because I love Rem) but the other too felt kinda lifeless.
English

@panorrrama @IchLacheDE @Lato3Lato @xboxanimee Theres nothing special about his past? Brother, our past literally makes us who we are. You don‘t need a character to have experienced super fucked-up things for their past to be interesting. That‘s what makes a character relatable. He is absolutely not uninteresting.
English

@NotAbotepex @IchLacheDE @Lato3Lato @xboxanimee well yeah but there was nothing special about his past (except for maybe him being a shutin but thats normal for an isekai MC too) so if we dont know anything people would just asume it to be like that. thats why i call it a quasi filler that just serves to appeal to emotions
English

@panorrrama @IchLacheDE @Lato3Lato @xboxanimee Other trails wouldn‘t have been interesting. RZ is about character development first and foremost, threats and challenges exist to push characters forward and develop them. Any random challenge that just exists for the sake of it wouldn‘t work as well.
English

@NotAbotepex @IchLacheDE @Lato3Lato @xboxanimee well me personally I wouldnt have done something like this at all, there are infinite other ideas for more interesting trials. put him in a labyrith or whatever. Why do we need to know his past it is an isekai, and if his past is just picturebook normal why even show it?
English

@panorrrama @IchLacheDE @Lato3Lato @xboxanimee Doesn‘t that just show how well his character was portrayed? Ofc the signs were there from the beginning, they were obviously hinting at his past but they could‘ve gone a different route like many other isekais and explained his issues through overblown scenarios. Glad they didnt
English

@NotAbotepex @IchLacheDE @Lato3Lato @xboxanimee i dont know for me it didnt really recontextualize anything because it was exactly what I expected.
English

@panorrrama @IchLacheDE @Lato3Lato @xboxanimee I also see it as art though. I know when something really moved me and made me stop and think. And this episode certainly did that. I can‘t think of any better way how they could‘ve shown us Subaru‘s past than this one.Maybe you should tell me how you would‘ve done it differently
English

@NotAbotepex @IchLacheDE @Lato3Lato @xboxanimee no i have to hard disagree on that.
but I think the difference is that you see it as entertainment, I see it as art.
art should never be comfortable it should make you ask questions.
English

@panorrrama @IchLacheDE @Lato3Lato @xboxanimee I don‘t get your point at all. The episode shows us why Subaru acts the way he does and why he always trys to impress people. Idk about dialouges, I would have to watch the ep again but I thought it was a great episode that recontextualized his character in a well-presented way
English

@NotAbotepex @IchLacheDE @Lato3Lato @xboxanimee obviously but those are massive tropes in this whole melodrama genre, im not saying shows cant do that im just saying the episode is nothing special and I cant understand people saying its one of the best.
also the dialogues arent very well written either (maybe in japanese idk)
English

@panorrrama @IchLacheDE @Lato3Lato @xboxanimee Relatability DOES make something good lol… people will like a form of entertainment more if they can relate to the characters and understand their perspective.
English

@NotAbotepex @IchLacheDE @Lato3Lato @xboxanimee also relatability doesnt make an episode good, you should view it from a critically distanced perspective.
English

@panorrrama @IchLacheDE @Lato3Lato @xboxanimee So are shows not allowed to portray realistic human scenarios and struggles because „its been done before“? Are they not allowed to sit on a park bench because it you‘ve seen other shows do it before??? Literally WTF do you mean by school clothes, hes a student who went to school
English

@NotAbotepex @IchLacheDE @Lato3Lato @xboxanimee maybe not in isekai but in media in general it has.
this episode uses 100 other tropes tho; son tries to live up to his father, mothers unconditional love, cherry blossoms, school uniforms, blurred edges, railcrossing scene, park bench scene I could go on but running out of lette
English

@panorrrama @IchLacheDE @Lato3Lato @xboxanimee Has it been done a hundred times before? Most isekai just use the bad parent trope as an easy way to explain why the protagonist doesn‘t want to go back home. Re:zero is pretty special in that regard, as it uses a relatable example that isn‘t just a plot device.
English

@IchLacheDE @Lato3Lato @xboxanimee by cliché I mean something that has been done a hundred times before.
this episode doesnt progress the story at all, except for the ending with Echidna.
It is not even a real ReZero episode it feels like a parody of some melodrama slop like your lie in april
