@VGS_1919 @Normaluser2023 @higureshuuen Does it really bother you that much to admit you pirate just as much as everyone else, lol?
English

@VGS_1919 @Normaluser2023 @higureshuuen You're right, I'm going to set up my VPN on the other side of the world so I can download in five hours what I'd normally get in five minutes
English

@RealityTeiji Secondly, given the piracy going on over there (lol), things are actually going quite well for businesses in a country where people enjoy free pirated versions 🤡

English

@RealityTeiji You’re comparing theft, the removal of a physical object, or the destruction of a physical object – which, by definition, is in limited supply.
A game doesn’t fall into that category; that’s simply my point – the comparison doesn’t hold up.
English

Nero@neroopinion

@magozone23 Hey, you talk a lot, but you haven't answered that yet, have you?
You're really full of it, aren't you, when you're doing exactly the same thing, you hypocrite

English

@Yusuke_Takigawa When Fakku removes part of its catalogue because Visa has decided I’m not allowed to have your stuff...
When the translations are botched and the fans do a better job.
When the title isn’t available for some obscure reason.
So what are we supposed to do?
English

@Yusuke_Takigawa Most of us just want to buy our stuff in peace without being treated like idiots.
When I pay for a Japanese game on Steam, and half of it gets removed because it’s ‘inappropriate lol’, they can go and shove it – and I can see why people pirate games.
English

@kyuusyuha_001 Because they’re afraid of a ghost that does them absolutely no harm, and which hurts consumers more than anything else.
One of the world’s best-selling games is also the most pirated 🤷
English

@azusa_maxima You big liars, lads, you do realise that our 'pirated' translations come from you lot, don't you?
When something isn't available here, you know it doesn't just appear out of thin air, do you?
English

@Mashiro_yuh @Svide0 We tolerate it because piracy has always existed in the West, and we realised long ago that trying to combat it is not only pointless but, in most cases, completely counterproductive.
English

@magozone23 Well, don’t come crying to us, because in the countries where you don’t sell your stuff, people pirate it.
You neither make nor lose any money in the process
English

@ovoghost @Casey_A_Ward @magozone23 I think it's quite possible to get to the end even with the pirated version; you don't need an internet connection to finish the game.
As far as I remember, the pirated version didn't connect to the internet, so the bodies on the ground and so on didn't work either.
English

Qotsu Sadon@Qoruan
@magozone23 I will disagree with you on this one. If something can't be bought than using it is not stealing. Digital content doesn't work like physical one, when it copied no one is losing anything unless there's profit to be made, but when restrictions in place, there's no profit to begin.
日本語

@nonuple9 @IreIreIredium A perfect example: Koikatsu.
I bought it out of respect, but what do we get in the West? An ultra-limited version – half the game is missing, so you have to pirate it to get the full experience.
How can you sell that? And it’s not an isolated case.
English

@okotatsudoragon @UNOwenWasFaer On the other hand, looking at it the other way round, there are quite a few benefits: word of mouth. Potential merchandise buyers, people to buy the sequels, a bigger community (and therefore credibility).
The reality is more nuanced
English

@okotatsudoragon @UNOwenWasFaer And by ‘non-issues’, I mean that no studies have actually proven that piracy harms studio – quite the opposite, in fact.
For the simple reason that a pirate, even if you block them, isn’t going to buy your stuff
English

japanese twitter users will tell you that you can’t play a game if the original creators won’t profit from it, and then they’ll go to hard-off
