@mpmesias Reach out to their primary care clinician! They likely know a lot about the patient and their home and community supports- knowledge that is essential for discharge planning and patient centered care.

Help! #thisisgeriatrics educators: I’m giving a talk to IM residents about the inpatient care of older adults. What geriatrics tip would you share with these learners?

Rather than immediate care needs at the time of disease onset, the spending associated with a clinical diagnosis of dementia may reflect a health care crisis, during which the dementia is recognized as a contributing factor. #geriatrics agsjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/jg…

"Egregious" & shameful disparities in dementia dx, care, & research for Black/Hispanic older adults, who are MOST impacted. Could we PLEASE spend $50k/yr/person getting these vulnerable older adults good care, & shelve 'mabs til this is fixed?? @halima_amjad at #AGS22

When a patient requests to drink cold ice water before removing high-flow nasal cannula (to withdraw life support), that will be the last one in his life. - Don't thicken it. - Make sure he gets what he wants. - Don't ask anybody. It won't take long. Go get it by yourself.
