Most of these mate in two puzzles are based on the same principle: using your first move to create a situation in which Black has only one possible reply, which then leads to an easy checkmate on White’s second move. This is called “putting your opponent in Zugzwang”.

The way to win here is 1...Qa1+ 2.Kg2 Qa8! and after the queens are exchanged, White will have problems controlling the black c-pawn and defending the h5-pawn. Black wins in the long run.

I admit to being quite excited about the World Cup...
I was looking at this game and came up with a fantastic variation:
13.Bxf6 Bxf6 14.Ne4 and White has the advantage.
Best is now 14...Bg7 15.Nxc5 Bxb2 16.Rab1 and 17.d4 and it is hard for Black to free himself.
But far more interesting is: 14...Bxb2? and now White to play and win.
