The time has finally come. After a few injuries and rehab, he returned to Spring Training this year and improved. Across 6 starts this season, his SO/9 is at 13.5, and he has a 1.02 ERA in AAA. (He does have 1 start in MLB, but that was as an opener with shitty Gary Sanchez catching. Contreras is catching today) What makes Henderson so special is his disgusting changeup. It has an average spin rate of 2600 RPM. In the history of the stat-tracking era, there is only one offspeed pitcher close to that RPH: Devin Williams’ Airbender. The Nationals are already among the worst teams hitting offspeed pitches from RHP this season. Righty starters vs the Nationals went over their K lines in 5/L6 games, with all getting 6+ Strikeouts. Not only is this a great matchup, but Henderson should get 5 full innings with a gassed bullpen and a hurt starting rotation.
