@EemanBintSulaym @titilopegb @ayowisdom_ @hadizabalausman Regardless of everything the government is trying to do, I feel that they are more pressing issues that can be focused on instead of the new reform.
Changing the military to civilian there is a high tendency of indiscipline and corruption may be fall the system.

Good evening Nigerians 🇳🇬
The policy side of my brain couldn’t help it but these are simply my first impressions from reading the highlights of the new NYSC reform so feel free to correct me where I’ve misunderstood anything. I’m genuinely interested in hearing different perspectives.
First of all, I think this is a welcome development.
The reform that immediately caught my attention is risk-sensitive deployment. My interpretation is that corps members would no longer be posted to locations with significant security concerns. If that’s what it means, then I think it’s one of the most important changes on this list because safety should never be an afterthought.
I also like the renewed focus on leadership, entrepreneurship, digital skills and career development during orientation camp. That said, I’m curious about the “specialised career streams.” Six weeks feels too short to meaningfully specialise in anything. If it were up to me, I’d rather see a longer, more structured programme, perhaps even up to 90 days. Of course, I understand that accommodating corps members for that long would come with huge logistical and financial challenges.
The proposal for skills-based primary assignments also makes a lot of sense. Graduates should ideally be deployed to places where they can actually use and develop what they studied. My only question is whether this can realistically happen at scale, considering the number of graduates mobilised every year and the availability of suitable organisations. I hope it works because the idea itself is excellent.
Another reform I found interesting is the move to civilian operational leadership. If this means the programme will place less emphasis on the paramilitary aspect of camp, I’m personally okay with that. I know many people loved the drills and would probably miss them, but I’ve always felt NYSC should be remembered more for preparing young people for leadership, work and nation-building than for marching.
One thing I’d genuinely love to know is how these reforms were developed. Were serving corps members and recent alumni consulted? Their experiences would have been incredibly valuable in shaping changes like these.
Again, these are just my early thoughts from a policy perspective. Implementation will be everything.
What do you think? Which of these reforms excites you the most, and which ones do you think will be the hardest to implement?
