 5️⃣ barcode scanners — first scan in ’74 (Wrigley’s gum) → retail revolution.
 6️⃣ laser surgery — eye care, dermatology, non‑invasive procedures.
 7️⃣ optical data storage — CDs, DVDs, Blu‑ray: lasers changed how we store media.
 8️⃣ led lighting — blue → white LEDs = efficient, bright, everywhere.
 9️⃣ solar photovoltaics — turning sunlight straight into electricity.
 🔟 oct, LiDAR & spectroscopy — imaging, autonomy, materials, medicine. 🌟 tl;dr: photonics isn’t niche — the manipulation of light is the backbone of modern civilisation. if you use the internet, drive a car, turn on a light, or stream anything you’re using photonics. and it isn't stopping there...
