Ongoing Infrastructure and Social Sector Interventions in Kano State: A Renewed Hope Progress Report | Babajide Fadoju
Ongoing infrastructure and social sector interventions in Kano State are being positioned as tangible outcomes of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda, with state officials highlighting visible gains across transportation, healthcare, education, and environmental management.
*Abuja–Kaduna–Kano Highway: A Strategic Economic Lifeline*
The rehabilitation of the Abuja–Kaduna–Kano highway, a flagship federal project, is already transforming mobility and stimulating economic activity across the North West, even as work progresses toward completion.
The State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, described the highway as a strategic economic lifeline linking Kano and neighbouring states to the Federal Capital Territory and southern Nigeria.
This is a federal road that is very important to us in Kano, he said. We are one of the major beneficiaries, and we are pleased with the progress of the rehabilitation and the fact that it is nearing completion.
Waiya noted that improved road conditions have reduced accidents, eased transportation bottlenecks, and enhanced trade flows across the region.
He added that commuters now experience smoother and safer journeys, including at night, particularly along the Dawakin Tofa axis into Kano, an indication, he said, of the broader economic impact of federal infrastructure investments.
*Project Status: Zaria–Kano Section*
Meanwhile, the contractor handling the project, Infiouest International Construction Limited, said the 775 kilometre highway is on course for completion by November 2026.
A project engineer, speaking during an inspection, explained that the Zaria–Kano section spans 45 kilometres and is divided into three segments: 15 kilometres, 17 kilometres, and 13 kilometres.
He disclosed that about six kilometres of the 13 kilometre dual carriageway has been completed up to Dabo Biyaro Bridge, with streetlighting installed, while 16.3 kilometres of the 17 kilometre stretch has also been completed, leaving less than one kilometre outstanding.
*Tal'udu Flyover: Solving Decades of Congestion*
At Tal'udu in Gwale Local Government Area, one of Kano's busiest traffic hubs, officials pointed to a newly constructed multi layer flyover as a key intervention designed to resolve years of chronic congestion. The Commissioner for Works, Engr. Marwan Ahmed Aminu, described the junction as one of the most notorious in Kano before the upgrade.
With this arrangement, we are confident that over 80 percent of the traffic congestion at this junction will be solved, he said, noting that only finishing works such as landscaping remain, with completion expected in May 2026.
These infrastructure projects, taken together, represent a coordinated federal and state effort to modernise Kano's transport network, reduce travel times, and unlock economic potential across the state.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has called on European Union countries to strengthen partnerships with the FCTA through increased investment, cultural exchange, and collaboration in key sectors. Speaking at a meeting with EU Heads of Mission in Abuja, Wike highlighted Abuja’s potential as a business-friendly capital, pointing to opportunities in real estate, tourism, agriculture, solid minerals, and waste management. He also outlined the administration’s priorities, including infrastructure development, security, education, healthcare, social welfare, and land reforms, noting ongoing investments in roads, transport, water supply, and security infrastructure.
Wike further spoke on Nigeria’s evolving political landscape, emphasizing governance reforms aimed at improving electoral integrity and strengthening democratic processes. He noted that the current administration’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” focuses on economic reforms such as subsidy removal, exchange rate unification, and tax restructuring, alongside social interventions to support vulnerable citizens. While acknowledging ongoing security challenges, including insurgency and banditry, he stressed that efforts are being intensified to improve security through better coordination, intelligence, and technology.

Jakara–Kwarin Gogau–Zungeru Drainage Corridor: A Major Ecological Intervention | Babajide Fadoju
Day IV Of The Renewed Hope Ambassadors’ Media Tour Of The NW Progress Report
Beyond road infrastructure, the inspection tour also spotlighted a major ecological intervention along the Jakara–Kwarin Gogau–Zungeru drainage corridor, another project linked to federal support under the Renewed Hope framework.
The 6.7 kilometre drainage system had for decades remained an open waste channel, exposing surrounding communities to environmental hazards including malaria and waterborne diseases.
The Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Nura Mohammed Hashim, explained that initial efforts by the state government to cover the drainage were constrained by funding, prompting an appeal for federal assistance.
Mr. President approved about N47 billion from ecological funds to enable full completion of this project, Hashim said, describing it as one of the largest environmental interventions in the state.
A representative of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors team noted that the intervention followed sustained engagement with the National Assembly and would significantly reduce erosion while improving living conditions across affected communities.
This has been a longstanding problem for decades, the official said. The intervention will bring lasting relief to residents. Once completed, the drainage system is expected to transform the health and environmental landscape of surrounding communities, turning a hazardous open waste channel into a controlled, safe, and functional infrastructure asset.

The Kano highway stretch covers 45 km in three sections, with most of the work nearing completion. A 6 km dual carriageway into Kano city is already completed up to Adobairo Bridge with streetlights installed, while the 17 km section is almost finished. Solar streetlights are also planned from Mabuchi to Kano to improve safety for commuters.

The Kaduna–Kano rail line project, currently 68% complete, is a 203 km standard gauge railway linking Abuja to Kano and extending to Maradi in Niger Republic. Built by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, it is part of the Lagos–Kano Railway Modernization programme.
Three out of six stations are already completed, with the Kano station set to become a major international transport hub and possibly the largest in Nigeria. The government plans strong security and maintenance systems, alongside an inland dry port to shift freight from roads to rail and reduce transport costs.
Bola Ahmed Tinubu has also approved supporting road infrastructure to improve connectivity. The project is expected to boost trade, create jobs, and strengthen economic links between Kano, Kaduna, Abuja, and even Niger Republic.

All Zinoleesky ever cared about was my money. I picked him up when nobody knew him, spent close to $1 million building his name in the music industry… but what did I get in return?
Now everything I worked for has crumbled. My clients stopped paying, and since last year, I’ve been battling bankruptcy.
It’s painful watching something you built from the ground up slip through your hands like it meant nothing.
I'm going to seize all Zinoleesky assets-------- -----------Naira Marley on interview

See the transformation of Marine Bridge in Apapa, Lagos, this is what purposeful leadership looks like.
Not long ago, this critical bridge was in a terrible state. It was worn out, with clear structural issues, and had become a daily struggle for motorists and businesses around Apapa. Getting through was slow, and stressful, especially for an area that serves as a major gateway to Nigeria’s busiest ports.
Today, the story is different.
With the intervention of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and the commitment of the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, CON, the rehabilitation of Marine Bridge has brought back ease of movement, improve safety, and supporting economic activities.
And this is just one out of many.
Across the country, roads and bridges are being rehabilitated and reconstructed, showing a clear commitment to restoring critical infrastructure and driving growth.
From North to South, East to West, one thing is clear, Nigeria is being rebuilt.

RENEWED HOPE AT WORK IN KWARA STATE
The second image captures the true condition of the 119 kilometer of Ilorin–Jebba–Mokwa–Bokani Road in Kwara State before intervention, a section that had deteriorated into a near impassable road marked by deep potholes, failed sections, eroded shoulders, and prolonged travel delays. For commuters, transporters, and residents, it was a daily struggle defined by vehicle breakdowns, increased transport costs, and safety concerns.
That was the reality before the timely intervention of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, executed through the Honourable Minister of Works, David Umahi, CON.
The transformation captured from the third image to the last tells a completely different story. What used to be a distressed and unreliable road is now undergoing full reconstruction into a smooth and motorable roadway. Drainage systems are being improved, and the entire section is being comprehensively rebuilt to enhance durability, safety, and travel efficiency.
Today, the road is regaining its place as a vital economic link, easing movement between communities, states and regions, supporting trade, and reducing travel time significantly. It shows not just rehabilitation, but a deliberate effort to restore confidence in infrastructure and improve everyday life.
RENEWED HOPE FOR CONTINUITY.
