It was a nice and important trip. Props to @BorisJohnson for making it to Zaporizhzhia frontline with us, where you can get hit by pretty much anything: radio/fiber optic FPV, Lancet, glide bomb, etc.

When you look at this kind of training, seeing troops grouped together behind a tank in an urban environment, that’s Cold War era thinking. That’s not how this war is being fought. In today’s battlefield, that kind of mass becomes a target. Drones, ISR, and rapid fires will pick that up immediately. And that’s the bigger issue. It shows that some of our partners are not fully adapting to the realities of this fight. This war has changed the fundamentals of how units survive and operate. Dispersion, movement discipline, signature management, and constant awareness of drone threats are no longer optional, they are required. If these lessons are not understood and applied, there will be real consequences. The battlefield is too lethal, too fast, and too exposed for outdated tactics to work. The Ukrainians are living this every day. They are adapting in real time, and they should be leading the way when it comes to training. NATO and Western partners should be supporting that, learning from it, and integrating those lessons immediately. What you’re seeing here is a real time example of the gap we’ve been talking about for the last two years. The question is whether those watching are going to adjust or continue training for a war that no longer exists. Слава Україні. Героям слава. 🇺🇦

It is in the best interest of NATO partners to conduct as many large-scale joint trainings as possible with Ukrainian experts. Better to take bruises on training grounds than on a real battlefield, where the price is blood.
