Y8 RUGBY 7’s COUNTY SHIELD WINNERS 🟡⚫️ Earlier this week, our Y8’s travelled to Market Rasen and Louth Rugby club to take part in the county 7’s tournament. The students in participation were a credit to the school, showing determination to overcome some very tough opposition.

Last week BGS hosted Y9 and Y11 Cowley Academy. Both sides were victorious in 5-1 winners in league matches.

Today, we welcomed Thomas Cowley Academy to BGS for a league match. Some new faces got a chance for the first team and some of those faces really took the opportunity and impressed. The game finished 6-0 with goals from: Wright White Stone Anisjko Lines Bond MOTM - White 👏

However, our boys managed to swing the momentum back in their favour and two smart finishes saw us end the Quarter Final victorious! Goalscorers: Stec x2 Wright Anisjko

Our Y7 team returned to action this week with two games. Tuesday saw us progress into the semi finals of the County Cup with a 5-3 win over Bourne Academy. Having led 3-1, defensive errors allowed Bourne back into the game and at 3-3, the game could’ve gone either way.

MOTM: A few standout performances from Borbely, Roberts, Barsby & Newark. However, today’s MOTM goes to Abdu (Y8) who stepped up for the Y9 side today and swept up at the back. Dealing with the difficult opposition, calm and composed.

It was 2-2 at half time! A thrilling first half. The 2nd half was another battle for both sides but this time it was the back 4 and the GK’s cancelling out each other. This continued through extra time as some crucial chances were scuffed, or blazed into mars… PENALTIES!

RW Rocco Robert’s then got in behind the opposition left back and drilled the ball across the box only for Louie to then get the tap in again to make it level.

QEGS then took the lead again with a long range free kick was it was looped over the top of Newark. 2-1 QEGS.

We then responded with a long ball of our own as Borbely played in Oglesbee in behind as he lobbed the keeper. I’m not sure it was necessary for Louie to kick the ball that high! 1-1.

The pitch conditions made the football difficult, meaning the boys had to adapt to a new style of football. The opponents went 1-0 up in the first half with a long ball over the top before the 1v1 was finished.

Our Y9 Football team returned to action this afternoon in the county cup quarter final after a long wait between rounds. An away fixture against QEGS Horncastle was on the cards, a few unavailable/injured players meant that we travelled low numbers.

Another day of House Volleyball (Y7). This time Parry got the win in a tight encounter that went right to the final game. Nearly 50 students took part today, taking the total number of students playing volleyball this week to 164.

The first place was settled between Muston and Laughton after they were level on points. Initially it was settled on points scored, then points conceded… both teams were level. So the final standing was decided on head to head.
