Very pleased to say that Beyond the Translator's Invisibility (edited by Rafael Treviño and myself) has now been made fully open access courtesy of @LeuvenUP!
Find it on JSTOR: lnkd.in/eMdS5Yny

@HannahKlimas @ntu_research Your success is all your own! Looking forward to hearing about this project as it develops!

@PJFreeth @ntu_research Thanks, Pete! Your help throughout has been much appreciated 😊

Looking forward to starting work as a Research Associate in Linguistics at @ntu_research next week! I’ll be working on the linguistic practices of coal mining communities in the post-industrial era in the East Midlands and the Ruhr region of Germany. Los geht’s!

🟢Now available: The green OA for my chapter “Yes: I translated it!”: Visibility and the performance of translatorship in the digital paratextual space
I argue translatorship is performance and is key to understanding (literary) translator (in)visibility

Thanks Anna Milsom & @The_Translat0r for reviewing my edited volume! "There is no question that Freeth and Treviño’s book succeeds in amplifying, extending and interrogating ‘one of translation studies’ most pervasive, polarising, and imprecise concepts’" doi.org/10.1080/135565…

@MonaBaker11 Staying off my work emails as I'm on paternity leave, so can you DM me your preferred email?

@PJFreeth Any chance I could get a copy of this Pete? Very interested in it but not the rest of the book.

Pleased to have a chapter in this reflecting on my experiences teaching the Amanda Gorman's translators controversies as a white British lecturer (and yes, part of this is a discussion of the nomenclature and the importance of how we frame these controversies in the plural!)

Well wasn’t that a bloody success, @PJFreeth?
Thanks to all those who came to our session on genAI & critical thinking as part of @APTIS_UKI Unconference. So much food for thought about the future of education, translation & technologies.
Stay tuned for more! #APTIS2024 #xl8

The first #APTIS2024 Hot Topics roundtables are underway. @PJFreeth and @pierototoUK introduced their project on critical use of GenAI and assessment performance, and are now leading small group discussions on the topic.

Just had a lovely hour discussing my own visibility research and contributions from "Beyond the translator's invisibility" with translation studies staff and students from @SML_Newcastle - thanks for the invite @jenjenarnold & @JCPenet! Hope to make translation more brat soon...
English

Submitting an article is the perfect end to an academic's week, right?
Big love to @pierototoUK for putting up with my collaborative nonsense, too!
English

Very much looking forward to sharing our students' reflections of the use, utility and importance of AI tools for their studies, and hearing about the experiences of other institutions at a "hot topics roundtable" with @pierototoUK - see you soon APTIS!

@hmking_linguist @PhDVoice @AcademicChatter Also, make a note of why you made key decisions. Your examiners can (and probably will at some point) disagree with you. But ultimately it's your project and you did it this way for a reason, so just be prepared to justify yourself as the expert in this field!
English

@hmking_linguist @PhDVoice @AcademicChatter Have a good break away from the thesis! You absolutely can over prep for a viva. So, take time away, come back with fresh eyes to give it a critical read through in the couple of weeks before
English

Those who have been there. . . what are your top tips for #PhD #viva preparation?
As cute as this little guy is, I want to avoid responding the way he does to any questions that come my way! 🤣

@dorrego @AstonUniversity Yikes, so many problems with this and yet almost none of them surprise me. Hope you get a response soon, David!
English

Hey @AstonUniversity,
Glad you're improving your staff-student ratio. However, I'd appreciate it if you didn't use my face to advertise your new hires since you actively encouraged me/my colleagues to leave or made us redundant. #Translation & #languages at Aston are now closed.
