Ish Smith suffered from the same politics that’s why he’s never been a starter. He’s a career journeyman who’s been a back up his whole career who gets 10-15 minutes a night. He deserved a shot to lead a team as a starting PG but he didn’t get that chance because the NBA is no longer interested in highlighting his skillset because he doesn’t fit the mold of what analytics (a form of politics) prefers.

I never said Reynolds “never” got opportunity. That’s your interpretation of what I said piggy backing off the others who commented. I said he never got a real shot due to the politics of the game during that era. Those politics being his size and coming out as a senior. I admired his game and simply wondered what he could’ve done with real minutes in a NBA game playing next and against real NBA talent.

One summer doesn’t indicate real opportunity. Neither does it prove productivity in the actual NBA. Zaccharie Risacher averaged 18 in the summer league. He looks like a bust playing against NBA players. The point I’m making is regarding development. Scottie came out as an older player during the height of the “one and done” era. Even though when he started in college older players were the priority in drafts versus younger. His short stint doesn’t mean he couldn’t play in the NBA. GM’s began questioning upside for older prospects versus 19 year olds who they view as having more untapped potential. You don’t have to agree but he’s one of several guys I think would’ve carved out a decent career if he played in an earlier era.
