ASSYRIA TODAY ܐܬܼܘܪ ܝܘܡܢܐ@TodayAssyria

🎬 Today we are sharing Kapı (The Door) (2019), a deeply moving film that tells the story of an Assyrian Christian (Syriac) family and the enduring pain of exile, loss, and memory. Set between Berlin and Mardin, the film explores the suffering experienced by the Assyrian Christian people of Tur Abdin and Mardin, where countless families were forced to leave their ancestral homeland but never lost their deep connection to it. ❤️🕊️ The story follows Yakup and Şemsa, an Assyrian Christian couple who emigrated from Mardin to Berlin 25 years earlier. Living peacefully with their children and grandchildren, their lives are shattered by a phone call from Mardin concerning their son Mikhael, whom they believed they had lost a quarter of a century before. Together with their granddaughter Nardin, they return to Mardin on a journey that becomes not only a search for answers but also a deeply personal journey through memory, grief, identity, and reconciliation. 🏡💔✨ Directed by Nihat Durak and written by Filiz Üstün Durak, the film features outstanding performances by Kadir İnanır, Vahide Perçin, Timur Acar, and Erdal Beşikçioğlu. 🎥👏 Today, this film carries an even deeper meaning in light of the reports of the passing of the great Turkish actor Kadir İnanır. 🌹 For decades, he was one of the defining faces of Turkish cinema, admired not only for his extraordinary talent but also for his humanism, compassion, and lifelong commitment to justice, dignity, and dialogue among peoples. His performances gave voice to ordinary people, the marginalized, and those who suffered injustice. His role in Kapı reflects these values with great sensitivity, making his portrayal of Yakup especially unforgettable. ❤️🎭 May Kadir İnanır rest in peace. 🕊️ His legacy will continue to live on through the unforgettable characters he brought to life and through films like Kapı, which remind us of the importance of memory, humanity, and hope. 🎥🍿 We highly recommend this remarkable film. #Kapı #TheDoor #Kadirİnanır #RestInPeace #Assyrian #Syriac #Mardin #TurAbdin #Cinema #TurkishCinema #FilmRecommendation #Humanity #Memory #Identity #Exile #Hope #Diaspora #MiddleEast #Culture #NeverForget Kapı (Kadir İnanır, Vahide Perçin, Erdal Beşikçioğlu) | Dram Filmi (Engl... youtu.be/M_j357i909k?si… via @YouTube

🕯️ Martyred for His Nation and Faith: Assyrian Christian Prof. Ashur Yousef (1858–1915), Executed by the Ottoman Regime 💔 Assyrian Christian Prof. Ashur Yousef was more than a scholar—he was a voice for his people. Born in Harput in 1858, he became a respected professor at the American Euphrates College and one of the leading Assyrian intellectuals of his time. In 1909, he founded the Turkish-language newspaper Murshid Athuriyun (“The Spiritual Guide of the Assyrians”), helping preserve Assyrian culture and identity. ✍️ In 1915, during the persecution of Christian populations under the Ottoman Empire, he was targeted because he was an Assyrian Christian and a prominent community leader. Arrested on April 19, 1915, he endured months of imprisonment and torture before being executed in Amid (Diyarbakir) on June 23, 1915, alongside other prominent Assyrians. ⛓️💔 🕯️ Today marks the 111th anniversary of his martyrdom. These atrocities formed part of the broader genocidal campaigns that targeted Assyrians, Maronites, Armenians, and Greeks because of their ethnic identities and Christian faith—devastating entire communities and leaving histories forever scarred. 💔 Prof. Ashur Yousef’s martyrdom remains a symbol of sacrifice, resilience, and truth. His memory—and the memory of all victims—must never be forgotten. ✝️🕯️ #AssyrianGenocide #Sayfo #Seyfo #NeverForget #ChristianPersecution #Assyrian #ArmenianGenocide #GreekGenocide #Syriac #Remember1915

Patriots on both sides of the Atlantic message me the same video: Another historic church attacked. France. America. Flames where communities prayed for centuries. You do not have to share every policy opinion to share this rage. A civilization that cannot protect its places of worship is advertising that nothing is sacred enough to defend. Japanese Christians are a tiny minority. We still understand: When the fire starts at the altar, it is not only about religion. It is about whether your society still has a spine. Patriots who defend churches are not relics. They are the alarm bell. Will you answer it this week?
