If you saw #ProjectServator officers in #Southport yesterday, ahead of the Cristal Palace event – don't worry. These deployments can appear anywhere and at any time, and it’s all about disrupting criminal activity and keeping you safe. Officers patrolled locations around Town Hall Gardens including Lord Street. These deployments consist of uniformed and plain-clothes officers who are specially trained to spot tell-tale signs that someone may be gathering information to help them plan or prepare to commit a crime. During deployments, the officers will also speak with members of the public and security staff to encourage vigilance and the reporting of suspicious activity. The event is set to be a spectacular outdoor performance and will transform Town Hall Gardens into a glistening open‑air ballroom. If you are heading to Southport to enjoy the show – have a great time and look out for each other. Stay vigilant and be aware of what is happening around you. Shakespeare North Playhouse in Prescot, part-funded by the Combined Authority, and delivered by Knowsley Council, is making a major contribution to the City Region economy, according to a new report. Missed our series on the City Region’s booming film and TV industry? Here’s a recap… The Liverpool City Region has seen 1,607 films and TV series arrive on set over the past five years. It’s added £150m to the local economy and created more than 5,000 jobs. The £2.8m Liverpool City Region Production Fund has backed ten productions, including the first series of BBC Crime drama ‘This City Is Ours’. It has led to 19 industry awards including four BAFTAs and two International Emmys. What began as a fund to attract productions, has stimulated growth, creating more than 800 full time equivalent jobs and 56 trainee roles in all six of the City Region’s boroughs: Halton, Knowsley, Liverpool, Sefton, St Helens and Wirral. @MetroMayorSteve visited the set of ‘This City Is Ours’ during filming of series two.

After 67 years, you definitely deserve a rest. ​The Royal Iris of the Mersey actually started life in 1959 as the MV Mountwood, spending decades as a proper Birkenhead commuter workhorse. It wasn't until a massive £2 million makeover at Cammell Laird in 2001 that she was renamed to keep the "Royal" title alive on the river-a rare honor granted to the ferry fleet for bravery during the 1918 Zeebrugge Raid. ​If you watch the 1965 film Ferry Cross the Mersey or the opening of The Liver Birds, you are seeing this boat in her original form. Her biggest modern claim to fame was carrying the Olympic Torch in 2012. As of today, March 29, 2026

A water-cannon salute to mark the withdrawal from service of the Royal Iris of the Mersey ⛴️

It was an emotional morning on the River as tugboats gathered to give her a 'water salute' while other ships in the Mersey sound their whistles. Originally the Mountwood, the vessel appeared in the 1965 musical #FerryCrossTheMersey starring Gerry and the Pacemakers and appeared in the iconic opening title sequence of popular BBC sitcom The Liver Birds. ⛴️ Her last passenger cruise will leave Liverpool at 4pm and Seacombe at 4.20pm today.
