I recorded this while flying over Beijing. Notice the flashes? These are everywhere in China. They photograph every passing car, capturing the license plate, front of the vehicle, and the driver's face through the windshield. The bright white flash lights up the car's interior so the driver is clearly visible, even at night. They're used for security, catching wanted people or stolen vehicles, verifying the licensed driver, automatically detecting violations (no seatbelt, phone use, unlicensed driving), and matching faces against the national database for warrants.
