While reading an article about fathers and sons having their first drink together, I remembered the time I took my daughter out for her first drink. We went to a bar just two blocks from the house. I got her a Sam Adams. She didn’t like it. so I drank it. Then I got her a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. Same thing — so I drank that too. Then I tried a Blue Moon. Nope… drank that as well. Thinking maybe she’d prefer something stronger, I ordered a Tito’s and soda. She wouldn’t touch it… so I drank it. In desperation, I even got a top-shelf bourbon — the bar’s finest. She wouldn’t even smell it… so I drank that too. By the time I realized she just didn’t like to drink, I was so drunk I could barely push her stroller home.

@CalebWachter @charlesmurray Malthusians have been proved wrong for hundreds of years. But every generation trots out the same arguments in some new fashion. They get cited, lauded and applauded. And their predictions fail. Over and over.

The whole point of science is to be wrong, and to prove statements incorrect. It's literally how science operates. But people being people try to use science to validate or confirm things. It cannot do this. It will never do this. It is fundamentally incapable of ever doing this.

His statement is correct—all of it.

I care about actions not words. He want's regime change and that's the best outcome. Barring that, ending their nuclear program for years and Iran focusing more inward than outward would be a success. Baring that simply setting back the nuclear program for years and reducing their ability to support terror is still a success. The only failure is if none of that happens.

Iran wasn't blowing anything up in the Gulf, the Straits were open, and energy prices were stable, and then we attacked and assassinated its leaders, and now tons of important infrastructure is being destroyed, the Straits are closed, and prices are up. We blew it.

They would literally prefer that the war turn out a terrible tragedy is long as it embarrasses Trump. Their mostly hidden true worst case scenario is that Iranians gain their freedom, stop trying to build nuclear weapons, stop supporting terror and focus on making life better for the Iranian people. Especially if that happens before the midterm elections.

Trump is so hated that people and media, and not only on the Left, are basically rooting for Iran at this point.

@markbuchiere @dilanesper War is sometimes the only answer. It's been 47 yrs of conflict with Iran and it only gets worse, never better. I have Iranian family that still visit Iran and that's straight from them as well.

You mean like not supporting Ukraine is treasonous, but not supporting the US virtuous? Which gives Europe more leverage to get Ukraine more support, helping with with Iran or saying gfy? Europe has a large economic interest in opening the Strait and a chance to urge greater cooperation. You think that a virtue. I think it's a mistake.

😅 you have stopped assisting Ukraine since Trump took office, guess who is proving all the assistances now? Ukraine is indeed not part of NATO and Iran is not in the north Atlantic or Europe which means NATO doesn't apply to that war. You can't pick and choose when to apply NATO and when not to. Educate yourself about the alliance, how it's supposed to be used and where and then come back to me.

An honest question: We Europeans need NATO for our defense. The Americans do not. Why should the U.S. stay inside NATO besides power projection? We should stop expecting that the U.S. has to be an „useful idiot“. They are not - they are a very important ally and we Europeans should treat them as such. And that also means, that we have to accept, that the U.S. has slightly different interests than we do. They don’t need a shy NATO. They need an active one. 🇺🇸🇪🇺
