Each time Alberta has established an Electoral Boundaries Commission to redraw election maps the government has accepted the commission’s majority report, so I was surprised and disappointed to learn that a committee of MLAs has instead been tasked with creating a new map. /1

Danielle Smith's UCP is halting construction of a school because of costs, while her friend Sam Mraiche still sits on $49 million in government funds (i.e. enough to build this school twice). #ABPoli #ABEd Priorities, amirite? cbc.ca/news/canada/ed…

After enjoying grass-fed Irish butter in California; coming home to this pale, hard factory trash from Quebec is a real disappointment.

@FreeAlbertaRob You were smart enough to know that there would be blowback if you accepted the minority report over the majority. So you simply replicate the process with new people in order to get the result that you want. And as Judge Miller warned, this will get challenged in court under S3.

I infrequently make posts like this, so bear with me. We had the windows replaced in our house, and I know that finding good recommendations was hard to come by when we were looking, so for what it's worth: Shield Windows and Doors in Edmonton is fantastic, we hired them because we wanted to have say over who the installers were (they install Duxton Windows, a company that builds their windows in Winnipeg), they're a fiberglass product rather than your typical vinyl, so will last longer and larger windows (we've got a huge one) were possible that were not with Vinyl. Because we went with these guys, we had say over both halves of the equation. Their installer team is in-house, and the quality of the work was exceptional. I can't recommend them enough. Straight up I was not compensated for this, this is just a happy customer providing feedback for a good local company that sells a Canadian product. Thanks to Dave, Tyler (hi Tyler!), Paul and the rest of the team. I would hire them again tomorrow, no question.

@FreeAlbertaRob Why are you largely replicating the process from the Electoral Boundaries Commission but with different people and the addition of a UCP-dominated MLA committee? Why accept the recommendation of 91 seats and reusing the public hearing material, but not accept the majority report?

Amusingly, Rob has blocked me. But he’s lying. Page 59 : "For all the reasons stated herein, the majority recommends the adoption of the majority report in its totality. " That report came with a map for 89 seats. The UCP are tossing it & redrawing it themselves. #ableg

Don't let devious Danielle Smith fool you. Your property taxes are going way up because of the provincial budget, not because your municipality is trying to screw you. The UCP is screwing you, and pointing the finger at municipalities. Be smart, don't buy Dani's deception.

It is not the increase from 89 to 91 that is problematic. It is this part of the motion. Throwing out the Electoral Boundaries Commission (and all of their work) and instead creating a new committee of MLAs with a new advisory panel.

The Northern Ireland housing market is absolutely bleak. Our house has been listed for sale for a month and we have only had one viewing. 3 bedrooms, fully renovated over the last two years, right by the coast, for under £230,000. Anyone want it?

It’s official. The UCP are going all in on rigging the next election. It’s unprecedented and unacceptable. MLAs should have no part in drawing the boundaries for the seats they run to represent. We’ll have more to say soon because Alberta, we need to fight back. #ableg

There is a reason that we do not have MLAs decide on electoral boundaries. Tossing out the Electoral Boundaries Commission and replacing it with a UCP-dominated committee is not just a bad idea. It is really bad for democracy. Ask the US, ask Hungary. This is not normal!

Elections are about people choosing their representatives, not politicians choosing their voters. Yet that is what the UCP is planning. It is planning to deliberately disenfranchise urban voters. Red Deer and Lethbridge would not exist as autonomous political entities.

BREAKING!!! In what appears to be a completely unprecedented move, the UCP appear to be getting ready to toss all of the work of the electoral boundaries commission… So they can draw the maps themselves! Gerrymandering has arrived! #abpoli #ableg #cdnpoli

My dear friends, I must sincerely apologize. I had no idea that postcards had gone the way of the Dodo bird. 🦤 I was just hoping for a photo or some art from your town or country to show my kids! But I’ll take a letter with a photograph to celebrate surviving cancer! #fuckcancer
