I've moved over from esq social (which was a great place!) to the Nashtodon.com community that @n8foo created, and so far I love the local experience. That was what I enjoyed about twitter anyway.

@Irizaurus @andywildman @UrbanEastNash Not just annoying, but dangerous. I have requested that the speed limit be lowered on Old Harding Pike, a narrow 2-lane residential road where I was hit by a car, and was told it was a "collector" and so the speed limit would not be changed. (I haven't given up on that, BTW.)

Enjoyed Village Pub great outdoor seating area, Friday afternoon. Did not enjoy the vehicles speeding past. Some simple traffic calming & a crosswalk is in order here. Cars going 40mph is not compatible with a walkable commercial area.

@UrbanEastNash I can live with this, although I'd be okay with reducing the size of the corner zone if the streets were slower, especially if there were raised crosswalks. But corner visibility is nice for people biking and walking too.

@UrbanEastNash True. But it didn't make sense then, it doesn't add up now, and they might as well read it for the next time private interests coming knocking, because we were such a pushover, there WILL be a next time. Nashville revealed itself to be an easy mark.

I was super disappointed when @daniel_mcdonell didn't become D6 CM bc he would hv been a Grade A urbanism guy in Council. But I think it is much more important to keep tailoring the laws to get better urbanism outcomes, rather than have more urbanists in Council.

It's not black & white. You can be a little urbanist. You don't have to be all-in like us. I would be happy if every CM read just one urbanism book to understand cities better. Pick one: Walkable City - 10th Ann edition Human Transit Strong Towns

@anitawadhwani @TNLookout We absolutely regulate the sale and consumption of alcohol, particularly with driving. And if Rep. Ragan is suggesting we regulate high-speed vehicles, in light of the role speed plays in many of the 40,000+ road deaths in America last year, then I'm all ears.

“Interestingly, no one seems to be crying out to ban hypodermic needles because of overdose deaths. Likewise, nobody is demanding a ban on Corvettes and Mustangs because of drunk-driver-caused fatalities" - Rep. John Ragan, R-Oak Ridge tennesseelookout.com/2023/08/08/ten… via @TNLookout

When the @MetroSchools bus comes early, causing your teenagers miss the bus, and you have to wait in a 30 minute line to drop them off at @JamesLawsonHigh. (Photo taken on Hwy 70S at I-40 by my passenger!) Happy first day of school, everyone!

I flew to D.C. yesterday morning, and it took 1 hr 52 min to get to BNA via @WeGoTransit with a long wait for the 18. Despite only running hourly, the 18 was full of people who live and work along Elm Hill Pike. That route deserves better service.

@woo_ten @mtnpassiknow Gotcha. And of course, we're only talking about the Urban Services District, because the rest of the county doesn't get municipal trash pick-up at all, they just hire private services.

Yet another policy that is against affordable housing: As higher density becomes more costly, we directly encourage sprawl. I hope we can reevaluate this and other policies that subsidize single family homes. We need human (rather than property) centric design.
Socket@SocketNashville

#Metro #Nashville #WasteServices Change to trash carts policy! Metro Waste Services will no longer service 3+ trash carts per household and will remove all trash carts exceeding 2. If you need more than 2 trash carts, you must contact a private trash hauler for collection.

@MattPulle Agreed, it's actually useful. Also, a place with Prince's is okay by me.

@toxicofriendron @WeGoTransit For regular riders, I think it will work fine, most already use QuickTicket or an ID pass. For new riders, tourists, visitors, occasional riders, or attendees to special events, it could be a barrier to adoption. WeGo promises the cards will be available at hundreds of locations.

@TAllianceMidTN Our volume isn't so high that congestion pricing is necessary, we could achieve the same result by charging more for parking.

Congestion pricing to enter cities. It’s a tool employed over seas, but it is catching on in the US. What’s your take on this? Should Nashville consider charging people to drive their cars into downtown?
