I have been so fortunate thus far to spend my career caring for people with cancer and their families, building programs and helping to build leaders. I had the honor of building and maturing the @StephensonCC phase I unit, then mentoring/sponsoring @DebbieRic23 and @Phase1Onc who now lead the gyn onc division and phase 1 unit respectively! So proud of them.

Excellent panel discussion at #ASCO24 on strategies for designing clinical trials featuring #RadOnc superstar @TheDrWood and other excellent #oncology researchers and clinicians. I love the #EarlyCareer focused programming available at @ASCO meetings and having a dedicated lounge helps create a wonderful platform for these wonderful topics 👏🙌 Also kudos to the @ASCOTECAG for the amazing new #EarlyCareer and Trainee lounge this year. 👌 My takeaways from the panel talk: ✅ Involve scientists, regardless of the trial type. Vital to give a lot of thought into the science behind the Qs. 👩‍🔬 ✅ Involve biostatisticians, early and often 🤓📊 ✅ Start small. Pilot studies can focus on precise questions that could form the foundation for a larger trial. 🌱↗️🪴 ✅ Never underestimate the power of a grateful patient. More than we realize, patients may want to help, whether thru trial enrollment or even philanthropy 🙏 ✅ In academics, negotiate for start-up seed funding to provide stability 💰 ✅ If you don’t ask, the answer is going to be “no” — so be persistent & flexible
