With Sovereignty and Journalism returning on Saturday and both likely to see a four or five race campaign over the next seven months, it is incredible how much the sport has changed.
30 years ago, horses like them could lose their first start back and nobody would say anything. It was the start of a long campaign and the horse can't be fully cranked every single time.
Now, by running horses so infrequently, horses like this are expected to win all their starts. They are not allowed to lose anymore. If they do, they are not as great as we thought. The real fascinating thing is the people who run their horses so infrequently, hoping to protect their legacy and prospects as a stallion are the people who have created this "must win" sentiment by running them so infrequently. It's actually counter-productive.

@barshoelife I totally agree , Super bowl has been moved, NBA playoffs have been moved and no one bats an eye. People love to complain about every thing in this industry and THAT is what is killing the sport .

3% of americans know the kentucky derby is the 1st saturday in may. i think the sport will survive moving the preakness back a week.

@MikeMutnansky I agree. Every leg should be 1 month apart. The only horses that ran in 2-3 weeks Derby qualifiers were the horses that needed the points. Every other horse that won their Derby points sat out and rested for the Derby.

I love the President and I'm so grateful he's in the Oval Office. Of course, I'll continue to support him and the America First agenda. At the end of the day, I do nothing for the approval of man. Our purpose on this earth is to glorify Him in all we do. The truth social post missed the mark. It's now deleted. Amazing! We're imperfect people. I know I am. I don't get my feelings hurt easy and I know with the President it's really not personal. I want to spend eternity in a real place called Heaven. I'd love for Trump to be there too. You think because a race is moved 1 week that it will gather more fans ? It's the second race, most people who aren't fans miss it no matter when it's held. They do this with all sports because there's such an instant gratification that is needed today. Now you'll tell the story of how hard it used to be when talking about legends. Or , it can stay the same.

@Fair_and_Biased It doesn't have to always be compared. Everyone's religiousness looks slightly different and that's ok. Trump is most definitely not devout but he is a friend and a believer
