In 1955, 550,000 Americans were in state psychiatric institutions. That number has decreased to around 60,000. The Olmstead decision promised to speed deinstitutionalization, but our research suggests that it was associated with a slowdown instead. ps.psychiatryonline.org/doi/10.1176/ps…

A6: We find the #1 reason IPS clients don’t work is fear that public entitlements will be reduced/lost. This fear is often based on misinformation. We need to continually educate people about how to maintain their benefits while getting back to work. #SEworks
