The scale of the Universe. Scientifically, the universe spans an enormous range of sizes: from the Planck length, about 1.6 x 10⁻³⁵ meters, which is the smallest scale where our current laws of physics may still apply, to the observable universe, about 9.2 x 10²⁶ meters across.

🚨 What Happened Before the Big Bang? 🤯 What if the universe didn’t begin with a slow expansion… but with a violent, mind-bending growth spurt that happened in less than a blink of an eye? Scientists believe that right after the Big Bang, the universe suddenly expanded at an unbelievable speed—stretching space itself faster than light. This mysterious event is called Cosmic Inflation, and it may explain why the universe looks so calm, balanced, and strangely familiar today. Here’s the eerie part: regions of the universe that are billions of light-years apart look almost identical, as if they once whispered secrets to each other. But how could they, when there wasn’t enough time for light—or anything—to travel between them? Inflation offers a chilling answer: long ago, everything was tightly packed together… and then space itself exploded outward, tearing the universe apart while keeping its hidden order intact. The idea was first proposed by physicist Alan Guth, and it changed cosmology forever. According to this theory, tiny quantum ripples—smaller than an atom—were stretched across the universe, becoming the seeds of galaxies, stars, and even us. That means every galaxy you see tonight may have started as a random quantum twitch in the newborn universe. Even more unsettling? Inflation suggests the universe was designed to look flat and smooth, like a cosmic illusion. And some versions of the theory hint that inflation never truly ends… that it keeps creating new universes endlessly. If that’s true, our universe might be just one bubble in an infinite cosmic ocean. We can’t see inflation directly—but its fingerprints are everywhere, written into the faint glow left behind by the Big Bang. The deeper scientists look, the more it feels like the universe is hiding a secret from its very first second. So the next time you look up at the night sky, ask yourself this: Are we living in the quiet aftermath of the most explosive moment reality has ever known? 🌠

A computer model showing the Laniakea galaxy supercluster and our place within it. The red dot in the image represents not Earth or the Solar System, but the Milky Way. Scientists have long sought to determine exactly where our galaxy is located in the Universe. In 2014, a research team compiled data on nearly 100,000 galaxies and mapped their locations and movements through space. For the first time, we saw that the Milky Way is part of a much larger system of galaxies—a supercluster that scientists named Laniakea. This supercluster has an approximate diameter of 520 million light-years, and the Milky Way is situated far from its center, practically at its very edge. On the opposite side of Laniakea from the Milky Way lies a gravitational anomaly known as the Great Attractor, toward which the majority of the supercluster's galaxies (including our own) are migrating. 🌙

Fmr State Dept. Analyst Aaron David Miller spent a quarter century trying to fix the Middle East and laid out 3 futures The only scenario that works is a genuine strategic bargain with the U.S. and Iran, serious nuclear restrictions with real verification in exchange for billions in sanctions relief and open oil markets, and he doesn't know if either side is capable of making that deal If they can't, scenario 2 is the slow collapse, ships pay Iran's tolls, episodic strikes continue, Hezbollah stays, the Lebanon framework never gets implemented, and the whole thing just deflates Scenario 3 is the one nobody wants, a mass casualty event forces escalation and the war restarts On the Lebanon framework he was more diplomatic than Daniel Levy but said the same thing, the word withdrawal is not in the MOU and not in the Lebanon deal, it's redeployment, and that was chosen very deliberately His 2 things to watch over the next months: does Trump impose actual costs on Israel beyond rhetoric, and does he campaign for Netanyahu or against him He's never seen the foundations of the US-Israel relationship under greater stress, shared values, common interests, bipartisan support, all cracking at once Enjoy my conversation with @aarondmiller2

🇮🇷 Everyone's been watching Hormuz but here's what they've been missing: Malacca recorded 23,100 vessel transits this year alone, that's more than 4x Hormuz's traffic. It's only 1.7 miles wide at its narrowest point near Singapore, and nearly 1/3 of all global oil passes through it. Indonesia floated charging tolls on it this spring. Singapore and Malaysia pushed back immediately, because they understood exactly what that precedent would mean. Meanwhile Bab el-Mandeb and Hormuz are simultaneously closed, turning the Arabian Sea into a maritime dead end. Maersk, MSC, and Hapag-Lloyd have all issued force majeure declarations on Middle Eastern transits. China retaliated against the Panama Canal ruling by detaining 136 Panama-registered vessels at Chinese ports in April alone. The Turkish Straits are handling Russian and Ukrainian grain under Western sanctions pressure. Suez traffic has collapsed since the Houthi campaign began. The IEA says the Hormuz blockade has already created an oil and gas crisis more severe than 1973, 1979, and 2022 combined. And that's just one strait. The Iran war showed the world exactly how fast a single chokepoint crisis hits Indian factories and Louisiana gas stations at the same time. The other 5 are one bad week away from their own version of this. Source: WSJ, PBS, ABC News, CNBC, Al Jazeera / Writer: Oliver

🇮🇷🇺🇸🇵🇰 Tasnim news reports that the Geneva talks are suspended. Iran walked out and hasn't come back. Trump threatened them again and the Iranian delegation decided they were done sitting in the same room. Qatar and Pakistan are now running around trying to paper over it without a deal to show for any of it. Someone is about to lose face badly before all of this ends. Writer: Oliver

This is Barack Obama’s Ivanpah Solar Electric Power Plant It a failed power plant that was set to close operations early 2026 after: - $1.6 BILLION in federal loans - $535 MILLION grant - $600 MILLION tax credit - MASSIVE investor write-offs But that shutdown has been rejected and it was decided the plant must keep operating. Which means taxpayers will pay roughly $105 million in extra costs passed on to California ratepayers for overpriced power compared to cheaper modern alternatives The California Public Utilities Commission unanimously rejected the shutdown agreement despite the plant being so inefficient it only operates at about 20% of expected electricity generation

🇸🇾🇱🇧 Syria’s president, Ahmed al-Sharaa, is now offering to help fix Lebanon’s mess and even open dialogue with Hezbollah. He says he’s not looking for military involvement, just economic ties. Trump said he could do it, and he's willing to. Wild how fast the script is flipping. Source: Al Jazeera / Writer: Claudio

🇮🇷🇺🇸 This is actually WILD: Israeli polls suggest that over 92% of Israelis believe Iran won the war, and 83% say it made Israel’s long-term security weaker. American polls though tell a very different story: Fewer than 10-15% of Americans think Iran won. What do you guys think the reasons are? It appears obvious that Israelis are living the reality on the ground. Americans are still consuming the media narrative. The people closest to the fire see it clearest, right? Also, Americans dont know middle eastern politics well at all. In Israel they must know politics. It's existential Source Ipsos poll via Brookings, Times of Israel / Writer: Oliver
